McInnis Withdraws Name From Consideration For Board

A few weeks ago, the Dillon County Council approved the members of the Dillon County Public-Private Partnership Economic Development Board. There was some controversy over the matter because while House Representative Jackie Hayes proposed Bo McInnis’ name as his designee for the board, Hayes himself was approved. (See story on our website, www.thedillonherald.com.) McInnis has withdrawn his name from consideration. The following is McInnis’ statement on the matter.

Mega Site Enhances Region’s Ability To Compete For Major Industrial Projects

The 1,920 acre Carolinas I-95 Mega Site, located in northeastern South Carolina in Dillon County, is now a certified industrial site. The property enhances the region’s ability to compete for major industrial projects that need 1,000 acres or more.

Four People Die In Wreck (Updated)

Four people were killed in a wreck on Tuesday night in Dillon County, according to State Trooper Cpl. Paul Brouthers of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Grants Awarded

The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation has approved grant applications totaling $1,710,933 for health-related programs in South Carolina.
The grants are for periods of one to three years.

A person was killed in a one-vehicle accident.

Census Official Thanks County For ‘Raising The Bar’

At Wednesday’s meeting of the Dillon County Council, Vermelle Simmons, partnership specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau, thanked Dillon County for “raising the bar.”

Former Mayor Sentenced

United States Attorney William N. Nettles stated that Alan Lenneau Berry, age 59, of Latta, was sentenced last week in federal court in Florence for defrauding the Social Security Administration and Hartford Insurance Company, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 641, and 59 counts of mail fraud in a scheme to defraud, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1341.
