A shooting occurred in the Lake View are about 1:15 a.m. on Monday at a location on Lovell Road, according to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.

Unemployment Rate Rises In Dillon County

Dillon County’s unemployment rate increased during the month of May.  The county  ranked seventh in the state in unemployment in May with a rate of 12.1 percent up from 11.8 percent the month before.

Lawsuit Filed Against RockTenn CP, LLC

New Study Shows That Many In Region Do Not Know Where They Will Get Their Next Meal

A new study finds that 89,010 people across Harvest Hope Food Bank’s eight county Pee Dee service area – including 26,530 children – do not always know where they will find their next meal. In all, 24 per cent of the population in Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Lee, Marlboro and Marion Counties struggle with hunger, according to research by Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. More alarming is that 28.5 per cent of children in the area live in continued food insecurity.

Exel Establishing New Facility

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Exel, a North American leader in supply chain management, is planning to establish a new distribution facility in York County. Exel is investing $38 million in a project that is expected to generate 133 new jobs.
 
“This new facility is a significant addition to our East Coast operations. The warehouse facility will be entirely developed and managed by Exel on behalf of Energizer Holdings, a consumer products company,” said Franklin Littleton, president of Exel’s Consumer Sector. “York County provides an excellent location for our operations and South Carolina offers us a positive business environment and a skilled workforce. We appreciate all the support we’ve received from state and local officials.”
 
Exel will construct a new distribution center on Paragon Way within the River Walk Business Park located in York County. The facility is expected to be operational by spring 2014.
 
“More and more companies are realizing that South Carolina is the new ‘it’ state for doing business. We celebrate Exel’s decision to invest $38 million and create 133 new jobs in York County, and we look forward to the company’s growth here in the years ahead,” said Gov. Nikki Haley.
 
Since January 2011, South Carolina has recruited more than $420 million in capital investment and more than 2,800 jobs in the distribution and logistics sector.

Exel’s decision to invest here boosts our state’s logistics sector and creates new jobs that will have an impact in York County,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
