James Little Alford, Jr.

James Little Alford, Jr., of Dillon, SC, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022.
A graveside service at the Alford Cemetery in Dillon will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022 directed by Cooper Funeral Home.
He was born on September 2, 1937, a son of Mamie Alford and James Little Alford, Senior. He graduated from Clemson University in 1960 with a degree in Agricultural Education. He taught Ag Education for eight years at Dillon High School. He then went into home construction from where he retired. He was a charter member of the Beaver Dam Club, the Minturn Cultural Society, the Minturn Stump Club, and the Dillon Tomato Contest. He served as a member of the Dillon County Council representing Council District Six from 1999-2003. He was a lifelong member of the Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church serving as deacon and elder. He grew up on a farm and had a great reverence for the land. As long as he was able, he planted a garden. He loved his family and his friends. He loved spending time at his beach house at Holden Beach. He trained hunting dogs who ran in many dog trails. With “Magic,” he was the 1992 National Champion, US Complete Hunting Dog Association winner.
He was predeceased by his parents; and is survived by his sister, Rena Lou Alford and his first cousins, Earl Rich Alford (Linda), Neill Alford (Kay), John Manton Alford (Jan), June Alford Stevens (Dave) of Spartanburg, SC, Mary Ann Alford Fruit of Spartanburg, SC, Frances Hernandez (Mike) Greenville, SC, and Anne Thorne (Don) of Roanoke, Virginia.
