The Latta Vikings junior varsity softball team connected for 19 hits to hand Loris a 22-6 loss in Latta on Monday, March 28.
Loris scored a run in the top of the first inning to take their only lead of the game as Latta’s Taryn Weatherford’s sac fly scored a run for the Vikings.
Loris knotted the score at 4 in the top of the second inning with 3 runs of their own. However, Latta placed 4 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. It all began with a triple by Abigail Cooper that scored a run. Jordan Perritt doubled and picked up a rbi, and Blake Hatchell grounded out, scoring a run.
Loris continued to fight and sent 2 more runs across home plate in the top of the third inning. The Latta junior varsity Vikings scored 9 big runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Latta added 5 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Loris connected for 4 hits in the game. Bailey Ferich had a single and a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Emmie Spivey had a single and a rbi in her 3 at-bats. McKenzie doubled and scored 2 runs in her 3 at-bats. Corteria Chestnut singled and scored a run in her 3 at-bats. Tanasia Grate garnered a walk and scored a run in her 2 plate appearances. LaTesha Simon and Mykhayla Bellamy each scored a run in the game.
Latta’s Taryn Weatherford had 2 singles, 3 rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 3 at-bats. Emily Smith had a double, a single, 3 rbi, and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. Ava Rogers was perfect at the plate with 4 singles and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Abigail Cooper had a triple, a single, 2 rbi, and scored 3 runs in her 4 at-bats. Blake Hatchell had a double, a walk, 2 rbi, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. Ragan Bethea had a single, a double, a triple, 2 rbi, and scored 3 runs in her 4 at-bats. Hannah Arnette had 2 singles, a rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 3 at-bats. Katelyn Roberts had a double, a rbi, and scored a run in her 1 at-bat. Elizabeth Brown had a single, a walk, 1 rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 4 plate appearances. Jordan Perritt had a double and scored 4 runs in her 4 at-bats. Rylyn Marsh scored 2 runs, and Averi Lovell scored a run.
Each team committed 7 errors in the game.
Ava Rogers was credited with the win. She pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 4 hits, 1 walk, 6 runs of which only 1 was earned, and struck out 6.
Nikki Lewis was charged with the loss. She pitched 4 innings and allowed 19 hits, walked 2, allowed 22 runs of which 9 were earned, and struck out 3.
Latta will travel to West Florence today (Thursday, March 28) for a 6:00 p.m. game. Support your team.
