The Latta Vikings battled Marion into double-overtime on Thursday, December 18, before falling 88-81 to the Swamp Foxes in Marion in boys varsity basketball.
Latta took a 15-8 lead in the first quarter, but Marion went 17-13 in the second to trail Latta 28-25 at the half. Marion took a 43-42 lead at the end of the third after outscoring the Vikings 18-14, but Latta fought back for a 22-21 fourth quarter to tie things up at 64-64.
In the first overtime, both teams added 11 points, with Marion’s Jordan Bell scoring two in the final seconds to keep the game tied at 75-75. But in the second overtime, Marion pulled ahead 13-6 to take the win.
Latta was led by TyQuan Porter and Kartilus McFadden with 17 points each and Tyreik McAllister with 16. Diez Mungro added 15 points; Devante Porter, 10; and Jordan Sims, 6.
Marion was led by Dahandry Foxworth with a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds. Jaquan Felton added 14 points, Jordan Bell scored 13, and Marcus Bryant added 13 points with 10 rebounds. Grant and Avant each scored nine; Buey, 4; and Allen, 3.
Marion remained undefeated at 6-0 on the season, while the Vikings slip to 3-3 overall.
The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday, January 6, in Dillon to face the Wildcats.
