Lady Vikings Fall to Flashes

Latta’s Lady Vikings took a 14-1 loss from the Johnsonville Flashes on Tuesday night in softball action in Latta.

Latta was plagued by errors as they split the series with Johnsonville, who fell 4-0 to Latta earlier in the season.

The Flashes scored four runs in the top of the second to take the lead and added three more in the third and two in the second to pull ahead 7-1. Johnsonville capped the win with five runs in the top of the seventh, while Latta got their lone run in the bottom of the second.

Anna Rogers took the loss for Latta, pitching three innings for four hits, seven runs, two earned runs, two walks, two outs, and one hit by pitch. Ashley Hanna got the win for the Flashes, pitching all seven innings for three hits, one run, and five outs.

Kayla Ard led Johnsonville at bat, going 2-for-5 with a triple and five RBIs. Marley Young went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs; A. Hanna went 1-for-3 with a triple and a RBI; Shay Morris went 1-for-3; and Meghan Powell went 1-for-4 with a RBI. The Flashes had 11 hits and three errors.

Dori Webster led Latta at 2-for-3, Tori Grimsley went 1-for-3, and Madison Owens went 1-for-2. The Lady Vikings had three hits and 11 errors in the loss.

Latta slips to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Region 8-A while Johnsonville improves to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the region.

In this week’s Class A softball coaches poll, the Vikings had climbed the rankings to be tied with Dixie in fourth place. Johnsonville slipped from first to ninth after losses to Latta and Green Sea-Floyds.

The Lady Vikings were scheduled host Green Sea-Floyds on Friday, March 22, at 5:30 p.m.
