Latta Vikings Power Past Lamar 6-1

The Latta Vikings picked up a 6-1 win over the Lamar Silver Foxes on Thursday night at home in baseball action.

The Vikings scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning and added another in the second for a 2-0 lead. Lamar scored their lone run in the top of the fourth, and the Vikings answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning for a 6-1 lead. Neither team would reach home again for the remaining innings, giving Latta the win.

Travis Power led the Vikings at bat and on the mound. Power pitched five innings for seven outs and one walk, allowing four hits and one earned run. At bat, Power went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double to lead the Vikings.

Donell Stanley and Christian Hendrix each went 2-for-3 with a RBI for Latta with Stanley hitting two doubles. The Vikings had eight hits and two errors in the win. Lenneau Berry reached base twice on errors and stole once, and Christian Hendrix and Jackson Williams each reached on an error, with Hendrix stealing once.

Alex Dorriety took the loss for Lamar, striking out 10 with one walk, while allowing six hits, six runs, and one earned run. G. Jordan led Lamar at bat, going 2-for-3. The Silver Foxes had five hits and four errors in the loss.

The Vikings improved to 4-1 for the season with their only loss so far coming from West Florence in the pre-season.

Latta will be at Johnsonville on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. and will travel to Creek Bridge for a double header on Friday at 5:00. The Vikings will be back home on Tuesday, March 19, to host Johnsonville at 5:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
