Both of Lake View’s varsity teams fell to the Blue Jackets in Aynor on Friday, December 7, as the Blue Jackets downed the Lady Gators 52-40 and defeated the Wild Gators 85-31.
In girls’ action, Aynor took a 13-8 lead over Lake View in the first quarter and widened it by outscoring the Lady Gators 15-9 and 13-4 in the second and third. Lake View rallied for 19 points in the final quarter but couldn’t close the gap as Aynor added 11 points to seal the 52-40 win.
Aynor’s Brooke Barfield scored a game-high 28 points, including one three-pointer, with 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Blue Jackets. Caprisha Nash added 11, Kimberly Smith scored eight, and Elle Griffin earned three points with Ayawana Dees adding two.
Jasmine Ford led Lake View with a team-high 15 points and Tranya Ford followed up with 12. Pamela Butler and Chelsie Williams each scored five, and Diyah Williams earned three. Ford sank three three-pointers and Butler netted one.
In the boys’ game, Aynor outscored Lake View in every inning, getting off to a 21-7 start in the first quarter and going 19-6, 23-6, and 22-12 in the remaining three for the 85-31 win.
The Blue Jackets had four players score in double digits, with Christian Buie earning 14 points, Zach Jenerette scoring 13, and Brandon Young and Nathan Peeples each adding 11. Hunter Chestnut and Hunter Windham each scored nine points, Phil Jenkins added eight, Chris Brown scored seven, Adam Doyle sank two, and Ronique Smith and Graham Harrington each added one. Young, Chestnut, Peeples, Windham, and Jenkins all sank three-pointers, with Peeples hitting three and Young and Jenkins sinking two each.
Michael Paige led Lake View with three three-pointers for 11 points. Recco Brown scored five, Jamal Ford and Jeremy Moody each added four, and Christian Jordan scored three with Anthony Bynes earning two and Corenthious Brunson and Joshua Butler adding one point each.
The Wild Gators are now 1-1 in the regular season while the Lady Gators are 0-2.
Lake View’s teams were scheduled to travel to Dillon on Monday to face the Wildcats. On Wednesday, December 12, the Gators will host East Clarendon and on Friday, Lake view will host Aynor. Varsity action begins at 6:00 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our teams!
