Vikings End Regular Season with Win Over Mullins

The Latta Vikings finished up their regular baseball season on Thursday with a 15-1 win over the Mullins Auctioneers.

Latta scored seven runs in the first inning and two more in the second to give them an early 9-0 lead. Mullins got their only run in the fourth, but it was too late to turn things around as the Vikings added another five runs for a 14-1 lead. Latta wrapped things up with one more in the fifth to claim the 15-1 victory.

The Vikings had six hits in the game, while Mullins had only two hits and five errors.

John Kever Love was the winning pitcher for Latta, pitching four innings and allowing only two hits, one walk, and one earned run, striking out four.

Latta’s leading hitters were Matt Rogers, 2-for-2 with four runs scored; and Buck Terry, 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.

The Vikings end the season with a 15-6 overall record and an 8-4 record in Region 8-A to finish in third place in the region. Lake View claimed first place, and Johnsonville finished in second. Green Sea-Floyds finished fourth.

Latta will move on to the playoffs beginning tonight when they travel to Hannah-Pamplico for their first-round playoff game against the Raiders. Hannah-Pamplico finished second in Region 7-A.
