Vikings Trample Trojans 12-2

The Latta Vikings took down the Green Sea-Floyds Trojans 12-2 in their second matchup of the season on Thursday.

The Trojans scored their first run in the second and added one more in the third to put them up 2-0. But the Vikings made scored three runs in the third to give them a one point lead and added another in the fourth to put them up 4-2. The fifth inning saw the Vikings added seven more runs to put them up 11-2 and they capped the win with one more run in the sixth.

J.R. Rich was the winning pitcher, going all six innings for two hits, two runs, and seven walks. He struck out seven.

The losing pitcher was Chris Caines of the Trojans with four innings pitched, six hits, nine runs, six earned runs, and two walks. Caines struck out eight.

Lead batters for Latta included Matt Rogers, 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored; River Owens, 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored; and Drew Benson, 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Latta’s record improves to 12-4 overall with a 7-2 record in Region 8-A.

Latta was scheduled to host Mullins on Monday night, and will travel to Johnsonville on Thursday, April 14. On Friday, they’ll be back home to face Hemingway. All three games were scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Be sure to come out and support your local team!
