Latta’s Lady Vikings defeated Green Sea-Floyds’ Lady Trojans 8-2 on Thursday April 7 in Latta.
The Trojans scored their first of two runs in the second, but Latta tied things up 1-1 in the bottom before adding seven runs in the third to put them up 8-1. Green Sea-Floyds would get their only other run in the sixth inning.
Morgan Mason was the winning pitcher for Latta, going five innings with only one hit, one run, and one walk, striking out three. Anna Rogers also pitched two innings, allowing one hit and two walks, striking out one.
The losing pitcher was Hope Elliott, who pitched all six innings for the Trojans for nine hits, eight runs, three earned runs, and two walks. She struck out two.
Latta’s leading hitters were Raven Baxley, 3-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs; Paige Lovett, 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI; and Andrea Gilbert, 2-for-3.
Allison Moody was 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI; Charise Braddy, 1-for-4 with one run scored; Dallas Sweat, 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI; Anna Benton Love, 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI; and Chelsea Welty was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
The win improves Latta’s overall record to 11-2 with a 7-1 Region 8-A record. Latta’s only region loss was to the region’s number one team, Lake View.
On Monday, the Lady Vikings were scheduled to host Lamar in a makeup game from March 31. On Thursday, Latta travels to Johnsonville for a 5:30 p.m. game against the Flashes.
