Lady Gators Bounce Back with 6-1 Win Over Region Rival Johnsonville

Fresh off a 12-0 loss to Dillon on Wednesday, April 6, the Lake View Lady Wild Gators bounced back on Friday night to take down region rivals the Johnsonville Flashes with a 6-1 win.

Johnsonville scored their only run in the second, while Lake View was scoreless until the fourth when they added two runs. The momentum carried over into the fifth, when they added four more runs to seal the win.

Avonlea Cooke was the winning pitcher for Lake View, going seven innings and allowing only four hits, one earned run, and one walk. She struck out nine.

Ashley Hanna was the losing pitcher, pitching seven innings for six hits, three runs, three earned runs, and two walks. She struck out one.

Leading hitters for Lake View were Morgan Wethington, 2-for-4 and Kayla Sanderson, 2-for-4.

Johnsonville’s lead hitters were Katelyn Hanna, 1-for-3; Alicia Collins, 1-for-3; Ashlyn Cribb, 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Deanna Davis, 1-for-3.

Lake View’s overall record improves to 14-2 with an undefeated 8-0 record in Region 8-A. Lake View’s Lady Gators remain on top of the region and have continually been voted number one in the statewide Class A softball poll.

Next up, the Lady Gators travel to Carvers Bay today at 5:30 p.m. for a region match against the Bears. On Wednesday, April 13, they’ll host Marion and on Thursday, April 14, they’ll host South Robeson for non-league bouts. Be sure to come out and support your local team!
