McWhite, Richardson Earn Medalist Honors as Latta Golf Improves to 3-1

Latta’s Michael McWhite and Mason Richardson earned medalist honors as the Latta Vikings fell to Darlington but defeated Hannah-Pamplico and Lamar to increase their record to 3-1.

Darlington was the victor at a four-way match in Darlington on Wednesday, March 23, but it was McWhite who shot a 40 for Latta to earn medalist honors and put the Vikings in second place.

The Falcons’ 17-stroke victory was earned by Elex Fryer who shot 41; Michael Sigmon, 42; Chase Bailey, 44; and Tyler Mixon, 44, for a total of 171.

Latta’s scorecard totaled 188 and included McWhite’s 40, Aaron Gardner, 47; Smith Gaddy, 50; and Jordan Upton, 51. For Gaddy and Upton, this was the first match as Vikings.

Lamar was third with 197 points from Lee Joye, 47; Garrett Smith, 49; Zach Windham, 50; and Dylan Hunt, 51.

Hannah-Pamplico finished last with a total of 221 from Austin Creel, 41; Jennifer Welch, 59; Josh Rodgers, 59; and Jacob Austin, 62.

On Thursday, the Vikings again took on Lamar, this time at Twin Lakes Country Club where the Vikings played host. Mason Richardson won medalist honors as he shot a 40 to lead Latta to victory with a total of 182.

In their second outing, Jordan Upton shot a 48 and Smith Gaddy earned a 51, while Michael McWhite shot a 43 for the Vikings.

Lamar finished with a total of 199 from Cody Windham, 46; Zach Windham, 48; Lee Joye, 48; and Garrett Smith, 57.

The weeks’ games leave Latta with a 3-1 record. Today, the Vikings are scheduled to take on Marion at 4:30 p.m. with the Swamp Foxes playing host.
