Lady Gators Get No-Hitter 6-0 Win Over Latta

Heading into Friday’s game, both Latta’s Lady Vikings and Lake View’s Lady Gators were undefeated in Region 8-A. But with a 6-0 win over the Vikings, Lake View’s Wild Gators now sit at the top of the Region 8-A standings and are ranked as the top Class A softball team in the state.

Lake View’s win was due in large part to the pitching of Avonlea Cooke. Cooke pitched a no-hitter, giving up only three walks across all seven innings, and striking out 10.

The Wild Gators scored one run each in the first and second innings, and added three in third to give them the lead at 5-0. Neither team scored in the fourth or fifth, and Lake View capped the win with one more run in the sixth.

The losing pitcher, Anna Rogers, went two and two-thirds innings and allowed eight hits, five runs and a walk. Rogers was unable to strike out a single Wild Gator.

Leading hitters for Lake View were Brittany Floyd, 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored; and Sierra Sports, 2-for-4 with a run scored.

With the win, Lake View’s record improves to 12-1 overall this season with a 6-0 record in Region 8-A. Latta falls to second place in the region at 4-1, with a regular season record of 8-2.

Next up, Lake View will travel to Cheraw for a non-league match on Wednesday, March 30, at 6:00 p.m. They’ll have the rest of the week off and return to action on Tuesday, April 5, to host Green Sea-Floyds in a region bout at 5:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Lady Vikings will host Johnsonville tonight at 5:30 p.m. Johnsonville is Latta’s other region rival, and currently has a 5-7 overall record. On Thursday, April 31, the Lady Vikings are scheduled to travel to Lamar at 6:00 p.m. before returning home to host Carvers Bay on April 5.
