Lady Gators Defeat Dillon 6-5

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators got a run from Chessie Miller in the sixth inning to get a 6-5 win over Dillon’s Lady Wildcats on Wednesday, March 23.

Both teams scored in the first with Lake View taking the lead 2-1. The Lady Gators added three points in the third to put them up 5-1, but Dillon held them off for the next three innings while posting two points in the sixth and seventh to tie the game at 5-5. In the bottom of the seventh, Chessie Miller made it to second base on on two fielder’s choice plays and scored on Kayla Sanderson’s base hit up the middle to give Lake View the win.

Avonlea Cooke was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings and giving up six hits, five runs, three earned runs and three walks. She struck out five Wildcats.

The losing pitcher was Dillon’s Taylor Price, allowing four hits, one run, one earned run, and striking out one. Darby Hamer also pitched two and two-thirds innings for Dillon, allowing five runs, four hits, four earned runs, and three home runs.

Sanderson was a leading hitter for Lake View, going 2-for-four with a home run and two RBIs; Brittany Floyd went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs; Chessie Miller went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs; and Morgan Wethington went 2-for-3.

Dallas Rowell got her first ever home run for Dillon, going 1-for-3 with one run scored and an RBI. Shayna Covington went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and Rebecca Callahan went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Shaquailla German went 1-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI.

Dillon’s record fell to 9-4 overall, while Lake View’s record improved to 11-1. Heading into Friday’s games, Dillon was ranked sixth in Class 2A, while Lake View was on top at number one in Class A.
