Pilot Club Of Dillon Meets

The Pilot Club of Dillon met on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the City of Dillon Fire Department. Nine members were in attendance. The meeting was called to order by President Vicki Simerly. The club recited the pledges to the SC flag and US flag. Brochures were dispersed for the PI Convention and District Convention. Our newsletter, As the Wheel Turns, was also passed out.
Melissa Moody then introduced the guest speaker, Miss Aubrey Goodwin. Aubrey is the second of three daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Goodwin of Dillon. She is a freshman at Darlington High School where she is a member of the Honors College, a junior varsity cheerleader, and a member of the girls’ golf team. In November of 2015, Aubrey was crowned Miss Darlington High School; the first freshman to ever receive this title. With the support of Darlington High School, Aubrey will now compete in the Miss South Carolina teen pageant for the ages 13-17 in June 2016. Aubrey’s platform for the Miss SC Teen pageant is “Stand up against Cancer.” Miss Aubrey chose this platform because it is very close to her heart. She had a best friend, Lauren Dickens, who succumbed to cancer ,and now has a grandmother, Annelle Covington,  who is battling this sickness.  She is also involved in the Children’s Miracle Network, which is a National platform for the pageant. Aubrey loves this platform as well, because it is such a blessing to be an encouragement to children and see the smiles on their faces! Aubrey also is currently busy with several projects and making appearances, as well as maintaining her grades. She attends East Dillon Baptist Church and is very active in her youth program.
After the wonderful program from Aubrey, Chaplain Millie Stanton gave invocation and prayer for the meal. The refreshments were provided by Jenny Hood.  The Lintel soup, cornbread muffins and cinnamon cake that were provided were delicious. After the meal, Secretary Melissa Moody read the secretary’s report from December. The minutes were voted and approved. Then, Francis Schillingburg read the Treasurer’s report.
New business was discussed. Monies were gathered for St. Jude and the mystery gift. The gift was won by Aubrey Goodwin. We then, thanked our guests, Suzie & Aubrey Goodwin for attending, and the meeting was dismissed. The next meeting will be February 18 at the home of Vicki Simerly at 6 p.m.
