Latta Boys Basketball Team Defeats Lake View

The Latta Vikings boys basketball team defeated the Lake View Wild Gators 56-45 in action in Lake View Tuesday, February 2.
Latta’s Davonta Porter, #11, controlled the opening tip-off for Latta while Lake View’s #12, Xavier “Rock” Johnson scored the first 2 points of the game for the first lead of the game. Tygran Porter, Latta’s #2, sank a 3-pointer to give Latta the lead. At the closing moment of the first quarter Darius Ford, #1 for Lake View, sank one free throw to give Lake View a 5-3 lead.
 In the second quarter Latta’s #3, Tyreik McAlister sank a 3-pointer and #2, Tyquan Porter (Latt) hit one for 2 points. Joe’l Legette, #13 (Latta), hit a 3-pointer. DeAnte’ Roberts, #11 (Lake View) hit one for 2 points and added the free throw after being fouled while shooting. Latta now had a three point lead, 11-8. Latta continued to score and increased their lead to 14-8. Duane Nichols, #23 (Lake View), sank two free throws followed by a two pointer by Darius Ford, #1 (Lake View). Latta was hanging on to a 14-12 lead. Xavier “Rock” Johnson, #12 (Lake View) tied the game at 14 with a lay up for two points. Joe’l Legette, #13 (Latta), sank a three pointer. Duane Nichols, #23 (Lake View) drove to the basket and was fouled as he shot. He made one of his two free throws to keep the game at a two point deficit for Lake View with 3:34 remaining in the first half. DeAnte’ Roberts, #11 (Lake View), makes another free throw to tighten the score. Duane Nichols, #23 (Lake View), gave Lake View an 18-17 lead with a lay up for two points. DeAnte’ Roberts, #11 (Lake View), it two 2 pointers in a row to give Lake View a 22-17 lead. DeAnte’ Roberts, #11 (Lake View), blocked a shot by Latta’s #15. Tyreik McAlister, #3 (Latta) sank a 3 pointer. Darius Ford, #1 (Lake View), made one of two free throws. Lake View took a 23-19 lead as the first half ended.
Davonta Porter, #11 (Latta) scored two points on the first possession of the second half to close the lead to two points. Lake View’s #24 quickly hit a 3 pointer. Diez Mungo, #10 (Latta) picked up an assist as Latta Scored two points. Duane Nichols, #23 (Lake View) was fouled and hit one of his two free throws. Tyquan Porter, #2 (Latta), scored a basket for two points. The action continued to move back and forth. Xavier “Rock” Johnson, #12 (Lake View), scored a 2 pointer and Davonta Porter, #11 (Latta), hit one for two points. Kartilus McFadden, #15 (Latta), hit a 2 pointer to tie the game at 29 with 3:29 remaining in the third quarter.
James Inman, #4 (Lake View), scored two points and on the next Lake View offensive play, he agin drove to the basket and was fouled while shooting. Inman sank one of his two free throws. Duane Nichols, #23 (Lake View), hit one for two to give Lake View a 34-29 lead.
A technical foul was called against Lake View. This seemed to turn the momentum of the game as Tyreik McAlister, #3 (Latta), made one of the free throws to bring Latta t within four points. McAlister again hit two free throws to make it a two point game. Tyquan Porter, #2 (Latta, sank a 3 pointer to give Latta a 35-34 lead with 1:27 left in the third quarter. Latta continued to pick up steam as Tyquan Porter, #2, added a basket for two points and Tyreik McAlister, #3, added a basket for three points to give Latta a 40-34 lead after three quarters of play.
James Inman, #4 (Lake View scored two pints and was fouled. Darius Ford, #1, shot technical fouls for Lake View. Lake View now only trailed by three points, 40-37. Duane Nichols, #23, added 2 points to bring Lake View to within one point, 40-39. Darius Ford, #1, hit a 2 pointer to give Lake View the lead at 41-40.
Tyreik McAlister, #3 (Latta)had his shot blocked, but on the next play, he laid the basketball in for two points to give Latta a 42-41 lead.
The action continued back and forth as Diez Mungo, #10 (Latta), laid one in for two, but DeAnte’ Roberts, #11 (Lake View), answered with a 2 pointer to cut the lead to one point with 4:55 remaining in the game. Davonta Porter, #11 (Latta), scored two to put Latta up 46-43. James Inman, #4 (Lake View), hit a 3 pointer to cut Latta’s lead to only one point.
Chakeem Blake, #5 (Latta), hit on one free throw to make the score 47-45 with 4:15 remaining in the game. Devonta Porter, #11 (Latta) made a three point play as he scored two points and was fouled. Now Latta’s lead was five points with 4:02 remaining. Tyreik McAlister, #3, added to Latta’s lead with a two point basket. Latta now had a seven point lead, 52-45. With a minute to play Tyquan Porter, #2, sank two free throws for Latta. Latta now had a 54-45 lead.
Latta defeated Lake View 56-45.
