The Lee Academy Cavaliers returned home to Bishopville on Thursday, September 7, with a 42-24 win over the Dillon Christian School Warriors in junior varsity football action played in Dillon.
The Cavaliers jumped out to an early 8-0 in the first quarter and never trailed in the game. With 3:05 remaining in the first quarter, Lee Academy’s #11 scored the team’s second touchdown of the evening. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.
With 1:07 remaining in the first quarter, the Cavaliers hit pay dirt with a pass from #4 to #11. The 2-point conversion was good on a pass from #4 to #2 to give Lee Academy a 22-0 lead. After the first quarter of play, the Cavaliers were up 22-0.
With 7:19 remaining in the first half, the Warriors’ #4 was on the receiving end of a pass and scored from 46 yards out. However, a penalty negated the play. On the next play from offense, the Warriors completed a pass to #1 for the touchdown with 7:09 remaining in the first half. Dillon Christian School’s #4 carried the pigskin into the end zone for the 2-point conversion.
After the kick-off to the Cavaliers, Lee Academy started on Dillon’s 48-yard line with great field position. #11 for the Cavaliers raced 48 yards for the score with 6:55 remaining in the first half. The 2-point conversion pass attempt failed. Lee Academy was up 28-8 over Dillon Christian.
Lee Academy’s #1 returned the kickoff to the Warriors’ 46-yard line.
After a couple of unsuccessful plays, the Cavaliers’ #4 kept the football for a 62-yard touchdown with 4:09 remaining in the first half. A penalty negated the 2-point conversion pass attempt and the following attempt was unsuccessful. Lee Academy was up 34-8.
With 2:42 remaining in the first half, Dillon Christian’s #1 carried the football in for a 14-yard touchdown. The Warriors’ #4 rushed for the 2-point conversion to cut Lee Academy’s lead to 18 points, 34-16.
With 2:22 remaining in the first half, Lee Academy’s #2 scored a 30-yard touchdown. #2 also carried the football on the successful 2-point conversion to go up 42-16.
Dillon Christian’s #4 scored with 42 seconds remaining in the first half.
The Warriors’ #4 also scored the 2-point conversion to cut the lead to 18 points again, 42-24.
Dillon Christian School will travel to Christian Academy on Thursday, September 14, for a 6:00 p.m. game.
