The Dillon JV football team looks forward to the opening game for the new season.
The team is coming off of a 7-1 season last year under Head Coach Kevin Roberts who has been the head coach for 8 years and has 18 years coaching experience.
This year the team has to replace many who moved up to the varsity level. Coach Roberts stated “We have lots of new players who we think can fill the void. We are excited to watch them work.” With so many new players, we hope to be able to fill some key positions. Coach Roberts’ expectation for this season is for the new players and returning players to work hard so they can carry on the success we’ve had on JV football while gaining experience to hopefully move up and play varsity.
The team has a new coach, Coach John Parker, as Coach Sam Grooms moved up to full-time as a varsity coach.
Coach Roberts will run the same offense while tweaking the defense with some of the calls. “We have lots of talent on the team, but it is our job to help them reach their potential”, added Roberts. Dillon’s offensive line has the most experience while the quarterback has the least experience, but he does not lack talent.
Dillon will face a tough opponent on a weekly basis. However, Coach Roberts believes that Hartsville and Aynor should be the toughest on the schedule. According to Coach Roberts, the off-season conditioning went great. “The kids showed up every day, and they worked their butts off and they didn’t complain” stated Coach Roberts. Hopefully, this will carry over into the fall camp.
The Dillon junior varsity squad will have a scrimmage game in Loris on August 16.
Dillon will open the season at Wilson on August 31 at 6:30 p.m. and will travel to Hartsville on September 7 for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff. On September 14, Dillon will be at Socastee in Myrtle Beach for a 6:30 p.m. game. Dillon will host Marlboro County on September 21 at 6:00 p.m. Dillon will travel on September 28 at 6:00 p.m. to face Loris. On October 5, Dillon will host Aynor at 6:00 p.m. Dillon will close out the regular season on October 12 at 6:00 p.m. at home against Manning.
