June Burdin Arnette

June Burdin Arnette, 90, died on June 25, 2022 at Lawndale Manor assisted living facility in Garner, NC, after an extended illness from Parkinson’s Disease. Visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening at Cooke Funeral Home in Lake View, SC. The funeral service is 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at Piney Grove Baptist Church near Lake View, SC.
Mrs. Arnette was born in Selma, Alabama on October 20, 1931, the youngest child of the late Walter Junius Burdin and Myrtle Woolf Burdin. She graduated from Selma High School in 1949 and from the University of Montevallo in 1952. She began her teaching career at Lake View High School in 1952. She spent most of her career as the media specialist at Lake View Middle School, retiring in 1989. Mrs. Arnette had several active years with the Dillon County Home Demonstration Club, the SC Retired Teachers Association, and Farm Bureau. She served briefly in Eastern Star and on the Dillon County Library Board. Mrs. Arnette was a devoted mother and grandmother, and a great cook, as everyone in the family can attest. She had a degree in home economics, but joked that after she got married, she had to learn how to make South Carolina fried cornbread.
Mrs. Arnette had a lifelong involvement in her church as long as she was able. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Selma, then moved to Piney Grove Baptist Church on her first marriage, where she served in the Women’s Missionary Union. She moved to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on her second marriage, where she eventually served as treasurer for several years. She moved her membership back to Piney Grove Baptist Church when she gave up her treasurer’s role around 2010.
Mrs. Arnette was predeceased by her first husband, Harry Leroy Arnette, and her middle sons James Walter Arnette (Debbie) and Alexander Benjamin Arnette (Robbie). She is survived by her oldest son Harry Leroy Arnette, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, and her youngest son John David Arnette (Elizabeth) of Sandy Springs, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rachel Amanda Hardy (Brent), Ann Ashley Stalls (Jake), Joseph Benjamin Arnette, Jacob Lee Arnette, Sarah Leanne Mathis (Lester), Cade Leroy Arnette, and Chelsea Katherine Isabel Fitzgibbons (Michael). She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Arnette was also predeceased by her second husband, Joel Glen Arnette. She is survived by her stepdaughter Charlotte Diane Bellamy (William, a/k/a Sonny) and stepsons Joel Glen Arnette, Jr. and George Walter Arnette (Becky). She is also survived by her grandchildren in this family, Arnette Henderson Vereen (Ashley), and Andrew James Gregson (Autumn), and one great-grandchild.
