Aynor Defeats Wildcats In Lower State Playoff Action

The Aynor Lady Blue Jackets defeated the Dillon Lady Wildcats 10-1 in varsity softball lower state playoff action on Monday, May 17, in Aynor to set up a rematch between Dillon and Loris to play on Wednesday for the opportunity to face Aynor on Friday, May 20, for the Lower State Championship.
Aynor and Dillon has faced each other 3 times this year, twice in the regular season with Aynor winning both games 2-1 and 1-0.
Dillon was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the first inning.
Aynor got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Carly Sarvis singled on a grounder up the middle and moved to second on a fly out to left. Ann Shelley arrived safely at first on a slow bouncer to short. On the throwing error to first, Sarvis scored to give Aynor the 1-0 early lead in the game.
Dillon was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the second inning.
Mackenzie Brown arrived at first on an fielding error to lead off the bottom of the second inning. Kolton Ray hit one to center that hit the fence that was good for a stand-up double.
On the throw to home, Brown scored safely, and Ray moved to third. Alivia Hess hit a foul fly to left that scored Ray to give Aynor a 3-0 lead.
Dillon was once again retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the third inning.
Aynor’s Ann Shelley hit a solo homer over the centerfield fence to go up 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Jenascia Lester garnered a walk to arrive safely at first. Lester stole second. Makayla Huggins hit one up the middle for a single and a rbi to get Dillon onto the scoreboard.
Aynor quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with 6 runs to go up 10-1.
Lightning halted the game in the top of the sixth inning with Aynor taking the win 10-1.
