The Latta Town Council held a brief meeting on Monday night to decide who would act as town administrator, presider of the meetings, and who would sign the checks.
Councilman Joe Williamson was voted to preside over the meetings.
Councilwoman Melinda Page was voted as Town Administrator.
The signers of the checks will be Councilman Joe Williamson, Councilman Abbott Shelley, and Councilwoman Melinda Page.
Councilman Williamson noted that with the contention over the mayor’s race and conferring with the Municipal Association of South Carolina that they wanted to allow Nancy Brigman to continue to serve as mayor until the situation was resolved. Councilman Williamson said that Brigman had agreed. The council approved a motion to allow Brigman to continue. Councilman Williamson noted that this is allowed and referred to the Municipal Association of South Carolina handbook which states “Until an election contest is resolved, the incumbent officeholder remains in office. Section 5-15-120.”
