She was one of three school level Teachers of the Year vying for the position of District Teacher of the Year. This year’s school level representatives are as follows: Latta High School – Brittani Owens; Latta Middle School – Shelley Marsh; Latta Elementary School – Brandy Sapp.
Mrs. Marsh is a native of Mullins and is a 1994 graduate of Mullins High School. In May of 1998, Mrs. Marsh was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education and certification in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University. Currently, Mrs. Marsh teaches fifth grade math and science at Latta Middle School.
“As a child, I always wanted to be a teacher. For 23 years, that childhood dream has become a reality. During my time in the classroom, it has been my mission to make learning fun for students so that they enjoy coming to school each day. I accomplish this by dressing up in costumes, using puppets or props, and singing or dancing in class. As Mary Poppins says, ‘In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.’ And fun is exactly what it has been to work at Latta Middle School! My green and gold Viking pride is overflowing right now. I am grateful and honored to have been selected as the Dillon District Three Teacher of the Year. I am truly blessed to work in this district. Latta Schools are one big happy family and in the words of Dorothy, ‘There’s no place like home!’” Being selected as District Teacher of the Year qualifies Shelley Marsh as a participant in the selection of South Carolina Teacher of the Year. The South Carolina Teacher of the Year Program is coordinated via the Division of Educator Quality & Leadership and is designed to honor those who are representative of the state’s many exceptional teachers.
