Rural Tech Talk Held To Discuss Digital Divide

A rural tech talk and technology career hiring fair was held on the campus of Northeastern Technical College in Dillon on Thursday, September 30th presented by NETC and Spectrum.
After a box lunch, comments were given by Rep. Jackie Hayes, NETC Board Chairman Dan Bozard; Tom Allen, Chief of Broadband Communications and Safety/State of South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff, and Ben Breazeale, Senior Director of State Governmental Affairs, Charter Communications/Spectrum.
A panel to discuss the digital divide and how that was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic was led by NETC President Dr. Kyle Wagner and NETC’s Vice-President of Student Services Mamie Harris.
Participants in the panel were Breazeale, Rep. Hayes, NETC Student Ambassador Carol Shea Linton, McArthur Farms Owner Rebecca McArthur, Dillon County Administrator Clay Young, and Kathy Schwarting, CEO of Palmetto Care Connections.
Closing comments were given by Peggy McLean, Director of Integrated Rural Strategies for the S.C. Department of Commerce.
