The Lake View Wild Gators defeated the visiting Scott’s Branch Eagles 28-12 in varsity football action played in Lake View on Friday, August 27.
The Eagles’ #3 took the opening kickoff and returned it to the Eagles’ own 44-yard line where they went to work. The Eagles’ #3 picked up the first 5 yards on the first play followed by Tyler Kind who picked up a first down on the next play. A holding penalty forced the Eagles to be on their own 46-yard line with a first and 19. The Eagles picked up 2 yards on the next play followed by the Eagles’ #3 who scored on a 52-yard run to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead with 9:16 remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point conversion failed.
The Lake View cheerleaders arose to the occasion and began cheering louder for their team.
The Lake View Wild Gators began on their own 26-yard line, and quickly Marvin Gordon picked up a first down on the first offensive play from the line of scrimmage followed by Treyvon Bellmon who managed 15 yards on the next play. Lake View fumbled and recovered the ball on the next play but also lost 10 yards.
Derrick Bethea fired a pass that was overthrown to his receiver. Lake View was forced to punt. Luke King punted but the ball came off the side of his foot for little distance, and the Eagles took over on the 50-yard line with great field position.
There was a 15-yard penalty against Lake View on the first play. The Eagles’ #3 was stopped after a 3-yard pickup. On fourth and 8, Tyler Kind was stopped. Lake View took over on their own 13-yard line.
Marvin Gordon managed 8 yards on the first play and carried again on the next play for a first down to Lake View’s 39-yard line. Tyrell Foxworth managed a 3-yard pickup followed by a 7-yard pickup by Tyrell Foxworth. A completed pass gave Lake View a big first down on the Eagles’ 13-yard line. Marvin Gordon scored from 13 yards with 11:54 remaining in the the second period of play. Treyvon Bellmon carried the ball in for the 2-point conversion to give Lake View an 8-6 lead.
The Eagles once again managed good field position after a short kick and started from their on 46-yard line. However, due to back-to-back penalties, the Eagles were unable to make a first down and relinquished control of the ball to Lake View.
The Wild Gators scored with 9:47 remaining in the first half to go up 14-6. The 2-point conversion was good on a completed pass to Shaheed Dawkins. Lake View’s lead was now 16-6.
The Eagles’ #18 was stopped on his own 17-yard line. After an incomplete pass and a penalty, the Eagles managed to pick up a tough yard on the ground followed by a 7-yard pickup. Faced with fourth and 8, Montrez Sinkler punted, and Lake View started on the their own 49-yard line. Treyvon Bellmon picked up 14 yards on a running play. On the next play, Bellmon picked up another first down.
The ball was just off the fingertips of Shaheed Dawkins on the pass. Faced with a fourth and 9 to go, a pass completion to Michael McDaniel was thought to be a first down. However, an illegal touch penalty against Lake View nullified the play, and the Eagles took over on the 15-yard line.
On this series of plays, both Lake View and Scott’s Branch committed penalties. With the football on the 9-yard line, Lake View managed to recover a fumble on the 11-yard line. After a loss of yardage and a facemask penalty, Shaheed Dawkins grabbed a pass and carried the football for a 70-yard touchdown with 58 seconds remaining in the first half. The 2-point conversion pass attempt failed.
Lake View’s Luke King kicked an onside kick that was recovered by Lake View on the 49-yard line.
Lake View quickly turned the ball over to Scott’s Branch with 3 seconds on the clock before halftime.
The Lake View Wild Gators received the kickoff to begin the second half of play.
Scott’s Branch took over on downs and began to go to work on offense. With 7:02 remaining in the third quarter, Tyler Kind managed a 60-yard touchdown to cut Lake View’s lead to 10 points, 22-12. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.
With 5:44 remaining in the third quarter, Lake View’s Marvin Gordon scored to give Lake View a 28-12 lead. The 2-point conversion run-attempt failed.
Lake View’s Tyrell Foxworth recovered a fumble on the kickoff. Lake View was forced to punt, and the punt rolled to the 22-yard line where Scott’s Branch took over. The Eagles managed to pick up a couple of first downs.
However, due to penalties, the drive was stopped, and Scott’s Branch was forced to punt, and Lake View took over on Lake View’s 30-yard line. Marvin Gordon was tackled on the 18-yard line after a long run. Lake View managed to pick up a first down to the 4-yard line.
After a penalty against Lake View and a stop in Lake View’s backfield, Shaheed Dawkins was on the end of a pass in the end zone. Due to an illegal forward pass, the touchdown was nullified.
After an incomplete pass, Scott’s Branch took over on the 20-yard line.
The teams played back and forth but no one scored any more points in the game.
