Mary Alice General Belton was celebrated with a parade and program at her home on Saturday in recognition of her 100th birthday on Friday, April 16, 2021.
Several vehicles paraded by Mrs. Belton’s home decorated with balloons, signs, and with people waving and shouting out their birthday wishes.
The parade was followed by a program where speakers recalled her impact on the community and with presentations by Pastor Ardell Washington from St. Phillip’s United Methodist Church, Latta Town Councilman Trudy Drawhorn, and Dillon County Council Chairman T.F. “Buzzy” Finklea, Jr. There was lively music and fun and many positive comments.
Mrs. Belton was born in Marion on April 16, 1921. She attended the Marion County Public Schools and later moved to Washington, where she lived for many years before returning and working in the Latta Schools for many years.
She has been an active and influential member of St. Phillip’s united Methodist Church. She has strived in her life to treat people right.
One of Mrs. Belton’s favorite hobbies is reading the Bible.
