Mr. Oscar Wendell Grainger, 81, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at McLeod Medical Center of Dillon after an illness.
A funeral service was Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at Bear Swamp Baptist Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. The family received friends Friday, March 24, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Cooke Funeral Home of Lake View.
Mr. Grainger was born in Dillon County, the son of the late Everette and Lorene Page Grainger. Mr. Grainger retired from DuPont Industries and worked with Cooke Funeral Home for more than 60 years. He was a lifelong and dedicated member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church where he served for over 55 years and in many other capacities. He had served on the Lake View Fire Department and Dillon County Station #3 Fire Department for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Bailey Grainger of the home; a daughter Wendy G. Pittman (Richard) of Greer, SC; a grandson, Matthew Pittman; a sister, Margie Grainger of Myrtle Beach; mother in law, Rometer M. Bailey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, W. J. Grainger.
