Vikings Win Two Games In Pre-Season Baseball

The Latta Vikings defeated the Dillon Wildcats 8-1 in a 5-inning pre-season varsity baseball game played in Dillon on Friday, February 24.
The Vikings were able to muster 13 hits in the game against Dillon’s 3 hits of which  each was a single by R. McGirt, J. Carter, and I. Patterson.  Dillon committed  one error while Latta committed 5 errors.
McLeod Carmichael struck out 11 Dillon batters while picking up the win for Latta. Carmichael allowed 3 hits and 2 walks. Carmichael also garnered 3 singles in 4 trips to the plate.
The Dillon Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning for the only score of the game for the ‘Cats while Latta picked up 3 runs in the top of the fourth inning and 5 runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Latta’s Daniel Khalil and Caleb Mishue each connected for a homerun. John Malcolm George picked up 2 singles in 4 trips to the plate, and Jason Norton also singled twice in 3 trips to the plate. Kody Anderson was perfect in his one trip to the plate with a single. Brady Hatchell doubled in the game in his 3 plate appearances. Dylan Brewer and Cledus Williams also each connected for a single in the game. Dylan Brewer and Jason Norton each had a stolen base in the game for Latta.

The Latta Vikings came from behind late in the game to squeak by South Columbus 9-7 in a varsity baseball game played in Latta on Saturday, February 25, at noon.
T. Lee doubled in the first inning to give South Columbus an early lead. South Columbus scored 3 runs in the first inning and 3 runs in the second inning before Latta managed to pickup a run in the bottom of the second.
South Columbus picked up another run in the third iUnning to give them a 7-1 lead over Latta before Latta’s bats came alive in the bottom of the third inning and managed to add 6 runs to tie the game.
Neither team scored in the fourth or 5 innings.
The Latta Vikings held South Columbus to no runs in the sixth inning but managed to pick up 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Dylan Brewer homered off of J. Wright and drove in 2 runs.
South Columbus collected 7 runs on 9 hits and committed 3 errors while Latta garnered 9 runs on 8 hits and committed 2 errors.
A. Bellamy and J. Wright each connected for 2 singles in 3 at bats for South Columbus. L. Stocks, D. Penny, and T. Lee each hit for a double while R. Spencer and T. Barnhill hit for a single.
Jason Norton picked up a double and a single while Jackson Powers connected for a double for the Latta Vikings in the win. McLeod Carmichael garnered 2 singles, and Kody Anderson and Cledus Williams each connected for a single.
Dylan Brewer and Jason Norton each drove in 2 runs for the Latta Vikings.
Jackson Powers earned the win for the Latta Vikings while pitching one and two-thirds innings.  He allowed zero runs, 1 hit, struck out 1, and did not commit a walk.
R. Spencer took the loss for South Columbus. He also pitched one and two-third innings. He allowed zero runs, zero hits, and walked no one.
