Latta Baseball Defeats Loris

The Latta Vikings connected for 16 hits and 13 runs in a back-and-forth game played in Latta on Monday, February 27,  against Loris to win 13-8.
Dylan Brewer led the Vikings with 5 rbi including a single in the fifth inning and a grand slam in the seventh.
Latta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and held the lead until the third inning when Loris put 3 on the scoreboard to take a 3-1 lead. However, Latta added another run in the top of the third inning to close the gap to a 3-2 lead for Loris.
Latta placed 2 runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Vikings added 3 runs in the top of the fifth to increase the lead to 4, 7-3  but Loris fought back in the bottom of the fifth to add 4 runs to knot the score at 7 thanks to 3 errors and a triple by T. Kennedy.
The Vikings added another run in the top of the sixth to take a 1-run lead, 8-7. Latta added 5 runs in the top of the seventh.
Loris picked up 1 run in the bottom of the seventh.
Jackson Powers picked up the victory for Latta while pitching two and two-thirds innings. He gave up 1 run, zero hits, struck out 5, and walked one.
N. Mincey was tagged with the loss for Loris while pitching only one inning and giving up 3 runs, 4 hits, and gave up no walks.
Hunter Sawyer started the game for the Vikings. He pitched four and a third innings. He gave up 7 runs, 6 hits, struck out 9, and walked no one.
A. Skypor started the game for the Loris Lions. He threw for 4 innings and gave up 4 runs, 6 hits, and struck out 3.
Latta committed 6 errors in the game, and Loris committed 3.
Latta’s Cledus Williams connected for 2 doubles and a single in 4 trips to the plate while McLeod Carmichael garnered 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate. Kody Anderson picked up a double and a single in 4 trips to the plate while John Malcolm George connected for 2 single 5 trips to the plate. Russ Rogers and Daniel Khalil were both perfect with a single in their one trip to the plate.
The Lions’ C. Todd and J. Medina each connected for a single in 3 trips to the plate while T. Perrit, G. Smith, and A. Aftosmos each singles in 4 plate appearances.
Latta traveled to Darlington on Tuesday, February 28.
