Reginald J. Nelson, MBA, was born and reared in Dillon. He attended South Elementary School, Gordon Elementary School, J.V. Martin Junior High School, and Dillon High School from which he graduated in 2010. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance in 2014 from Coastal Carolina University. He then earned his Masters in Business Administration from Coastal Carolina University in 2015.
Nelson has a passion for financial literacy and for helping others achieve their financial goals. He recently began his career as an investment professional with a financial institution.
“In hopes to reach a multitude of people and spread financial literacy I took my passion and my knowledge of finance and decided to help the next generation,” said Nelson. “Many times children are not taught about money and default to subconsciously learning from other sources, which may not be the best example. Children are truly the future and equipping them with sound financial prinicples will give them a chance to become financially responsible adults,” said Nelson.

This passion inspired him to write his first book entitled, “My First Money Book,” which was released on April 13th during Financial Literacy Month. Nelson describes it as a guide for parents and children to saving, spending, sharing, and investing their money.”
On May 16th, Nelson shared and read his book to the fourth graders at Gordon Elementary School, which amounts to nearly 2000 students.
“The children responded very well; we danced, we learned, candy was passed out and most importantly they took away key fundamentals about money on a level that they understood and that they can relate to,” Nelson said.
Nelson was pleased to visit the school that he attended 13 years earlier and to be able to give back to the community.
