Union Baptist Church Holds Free Mission Project

By Betsy Finklea
Union Baptist Church held their semi-annual mission project – a free yard sale –  recently.
A couple of hundred people turned out to browse free items including clothes, household items, furniture, baby items, and more.  They even had a stove, beds, and recliners.  Rev. Dean Parker, pastor of Union Baptist Church, said that someone could have set up a home with the items they had available.  Those who came to the free yard sale even had the opportunity to leave with a free hot dog lunch.
Rev. Parker said they collect items and hold the free yard sale in the spring and fall, usually in April and October, although this year’s event was delayed until May.
They spread the word about the event through the newspaper, signs, social media, and good old-fashioned word of mouth.
Nothing is wasted.  Any leftovers from the event go to Promised Land or to Trinity in Latta.
