Colonel Retired Joseph T. Griffin, Jr.

 
     Colonel Retired Joseph T. Griffin, Jr., 88, died Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina.
     Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Florence National Cemetery with full military honors directed by Cooper Funeral Home.
     Born in Baltimore, Maryland, July 13, 1927, he was the son of the late Joseph Trundle Griffin, Sr. and Margaret Day Griffin.  He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, where he served with the First Cavalry Division.  He was a graduate of Fort Union Military Academy, Bullis Prep School, United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1950, United States Army War College, and Shippensburg State University Graduate School.  He received 2 Silver Stars, 2 Legions of Merit, 1 Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Combat Infantry Badges, and Parachutist Badge.  He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
     Survivors include his sons, Joseph T. Griffin, III (Martha) of Pawley’s Island, SC, and Earl Todd Griffin of Highland Falls, NY; twin brother, Jack Griffin of Frederick, MD.
