The Latta Vikings defeated Hemingway 47-32 in basketball action in Latta Thursday, February 11.
Latta took a 27-14 lead at halftime. Latta picked up 15 points in the third while Hemingway scored 6 points. Hemingway outscored Latta 12-5 in the fourth quarter.
Rianna Green hit for a 2-pointer to begin the second half for the Vikings. Hemingway’s #5 is fouled as she shoots and sinks one free throw. In the next few moments of play, it appeared the basketball would just not go through the hoops until Rianna Green is fouled and sinks two free throws. Maya McDuffie, #1 for Latta, sinks one free throw followed by #5 for Hemingway who lays one in for 2 oints. Latta led 38-17 with 1:58 left in the third period.
Maya McDuffie, #1 for Latta, picked up a loose ball and goes the distance and lays one in for 2 points. # 5 for Hemingway added another 2-pointer and #4 for Hemingway hit on a long three before #5 for Hemingway is fouled and sinks one free throw.
TaKeria Legette scored 17 points, 15 rebounds, had 7 steals, and 14 assists in Latta’s victory. Rianna Green garnered 16 points, had 5 steals, and 4 assists for Latta while Arica Gandy added 5 points and 10 rebounds. Cierra Sullivan chipped in 4 points, Maya McDuffie added 3, and Tyjhane Faison had 2 points. Iyonna McKenzie had 7 steals and 5 assists in the Latta win.
Z. Thomas was the leading scorer with 11 points for Hemingway followed by M. Polk with 6. R. Holmes added 6, J. Davis scored 5, and E. Edwards and W. Space each contributed 2 points.
Latta ended regular season play with 12 wins and 4 losses with 9 wins and only 1 loss in conference play.
