The Latta Vikings boys basketball team defeated Creek Bridge 71 to 52, in Latta Friday, January 29th.
Although the tip-off was controlled by Latta, Creek Bridge’s # 21 scored to give them the only lead of the game as Latta quickly rebounded to take a short-lived lead until Creek Bridge knotted the game at 6. With 3:37 left in the first quarter Latta was ahead 11-6.
Latta’s #2 TyQuan Porter dunked one to the delight of the Latta fans.
Latta held a comfortable lead of 24-9 after the first quarter.
The Creek Bridge players fought back in the second quarter and the half ended with Latta leading 33 to 23.
The second half began with #11 Devonta Porter taking the first shot for Latta that was rebounded by #3 Creek Bridge who scored the first 2 points of the second half to bring Creek Bridge within 8 points of Latta.
At times #00 Creek Bridge showed some impressive plays beneath the basket.
#3 Tyreek McAlister sank 2 free throws to give Latta a 37 to 26 lead.
#11 Latta’s Davonta Porter scored 2 points and was fouled in the act of shooting but missed the free throw. On the very next play he was fouled again and sank 1 of 2 free throws. After 3 quarters Latta led 50 to 37. In the fourth quarter Creek Bridge fought back again to close the game at 54 to 45 with 6:21 remaining. Moments later the #3 player for Creek Bridge made a 3-pointer to close the gap to 56 to 48.
With 3:57 remaining #3 Tyreek McAlister drove the distance of the basketball court and laid 1 in for 2 points to give Latta a 62 to 48 lead.
The final score was Latta 71 and Creek Bridge 52.
