Wildcats Win Over Latta

By Lonnie Turner
The Dillon Wildcats rode the arm of Avery McCall and running of Jamison Chapman Friday evening to defeat the Latta Vikings, 21-0, in a game shortened by lightning with 1:11 remaining in the first quarter.
McCall threw seven times completing six for 106 yards in the quarter, setting up two touchdowns. He also ran the first score in from 9 yards out after he momentarily bobbled the snap from center. Chapman’s first three carries on the drive netted 37 yards on first down runs of 13, 13 and 11 yards to get to set up the scoring run by McCall.
After the second three and punt series for Latta, an off side penalty and two straight pass completions to Chapman covering 36 yards, Deshawn Davis put the Wildcat up 14-0 with a 5-yard run out of the “Wildcat” formation.
Two more passes from McCall set up the final score. The senior signal caller threw a 30-yarder to Murishi Irankunda on a third down pass and a 19-yard toss to KaNore McKinnon to set up a one-yard run by Chapman with 3 minutes left in the quarter. The Dillon defense didn’t allow a Latta first down, limiting the Vikings to only 13 offensive plays in four three and out series.
Quarterback Colby Lee completed four of eight pass attempts for a net total of 5 yards, and the Wildcat defensive rush allowed a net of only minus six yards on just five running plays.
Chapman and McKinnon had two receptions apiece for 36 and 31 yards consecutively to lead the receiving corps. Morgan Covington caught one for 9 yards and the sixth completion for McCall was the 30-yard toss to Irankunda. Chapman finished with 38 total yards on four carries for the Cats. On defense Jermaine McDaniel and Damario Currie led the tackle sheet with four takedowns apiece
The Wildcats will take this week off and will travel to Darlington to face on the high flying Falcons on the 18th. The next home game will feature the Marlboro County Bulldogs and the Cats on September 25th at 7:30!
