Law Enforcement Investigating Vehicle Break-Ins (with video)

The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens not to leave items in vehicles that are unlocked, however if you do they strongly recommend that you not leave items in plain view and lock your vehicle.
The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office has seen an increase in vehicle break-ins in the past couple of months throughout the county, since the recent article about vehicle break-ins we had another rash of vehicle break-ins in the Latta area and are also having some in different areas of Dillon.
If you see any suspicious activity related to this type of crime or know any information that will help in the investigation of the recent vehicle break-ins please call the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office at 843-774-1432. (See page 4 for related information)

B&E of Motor Vehicle, 6/1/2015, 0330, E Harrison St., Dillon, SC, PFC Cody James Martin, SGT Michael Yoder, On June 1, 2015, approx 0330 city officers responded to around 1400 East Harrison block in reference to three black males breaking inside vehicles. City officer’s had found four vehicles that were broken into. Suspect: Black male, age 15-25

B&E of Motor Vehicle, 5/31/2015, 0230, 6/1/2015, 0339, E Harrison St., Dillon, SC, CPL Jeffrey H Cook, On June 1, 2015, Central Dispatch received a call from the complainant stating that three black males were breaking in vehicle on the 1400 block of East Harrison Street. Officers rode the area but could not locate the suspects. Officers started checking vehicle and noticed that some vehicles had been broken into. The suspects went through the victim’s glove box and center console. Investigator Hayes was notified. The victim did not have anything missing from the vehicle. Suspect: Black male, age 18-23.

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 6/1/2015, 0335, E Harrison St. Ext., Dillon, SC, SGT Michael Yoder. The complainant stated that he saw three black males go down the street trying to break into vehicles. One male was on one side and the other two were on the opposite. The three then went down the entire street trying t find car doors that were unlocked. The above victim’s door was unlocked. The subject went through the vehicle glove box and center console. Nothing was taken from the vehicle. Investigator Hayes came out to the scene.

B&E of Motor Vehicle, 6/20/2015, 1200, 0130 a.m. N 6th Ave., Dillon, SC,CPL TJ Bourgoin. The listed complainant (Latta police officer) advised that the items listed as follows: point blank PACA vest, NUVI body cam, 800 radio walkie and his Latta Police Dept badge were stolen from his 2007 black in color Ford Mustang GT. The comp advised that he parked his vehicle at the incident location around 1930 on 06-19-2015 and then found the vehicle broken into on 06-20-2015 around 1330. The comp states that the driver’s side door was partially opened when he walked to his car. The comp also stated that the suspect opened the glove compartment and pulled a tazer cartridge out and left it lying in the front passenger seat. The suspect took the body cam, radio and badge from the back seat of the vehicle. The comp advised that he didn’t go to sleep until around 0400 last night and didn’t hear anything leading up to that point. I contacted Detective J. Turner. Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 6/1/2015, 0300, 0339, E Harrison St., Dillon, SC, PFC Blake Legette. The suspects were three black males according to Central Dispatch. Upon reporting officer arrival the suspects had already left the scene. Reporting officer then patrolled East Harrison Street and was informed by SGT Yoder Unit 207 and PFC Martin Unit 227 that several vehicles near the incident location vicinity had been broken into. Reporting officer asked the victims if anything of value was missing from the vehicle and victim #2, the owner of the vehicle stated no. Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 6/15/2015, 1100, Rosewood Apts, Dillon, SC, PFC Tony Cummings. On the above date and time, R/O was dispatched to the comps address in reference to her pocketbook being taken out of her vehicle at the incident location. Upon arrival, the comp said she went to the incident location and left her pocketbook in the vehicle, and when she returned, the pocketbook was gone. Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 7/23/2015, 1345, S Longstreet Road, Apt, Dillon, SC, PFC Sherida McLeod. The complainant stated that she received a text message from her neighbor informing her that her passenger car door was open. The complainant stated that she got out of bed to go check on her car and once she went to it she noticed that her belongings had been scattered around in the car and she noticed that her GPS that she had in her glove box was missing. The GPS is a Magellan Roadmate 5320-LM with a 5” screen and is black in color. The complainant stated that she is positive that her doors were locked. Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 7/21/2015, 2300, 7/22/2015, 0659. East Madison Street, Dillon, SC, SGT Michael Yoder. The victim stated that she came out of her residence to leave for work and noticed the driver side door open. She did not lock her vehicle because her ten year old daughter was getting items out of the car last night. Only change in the center console was taken. Investigator Herring was called to the scene and took photos. Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 7/22/2015, 0730, 7/22/2015, 0745, N 18th Ave, Dillon, SC, PFC Blake Legette. The complainant stated that he discovered his vehicle driver’s door, tool box, and glove compartment and other consoles were all open. The complainant stated that he was missing some change from his ash tray and a buck hunter’s knife valued at $60. Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 7/22/2015, 0759, 0825, N 12th Ave, Dillon, SC, LCPL Lorie Tyler, SGT Jason Turner. The comp stated that his 2001 Ford F350’s doors do not lock. The comp stated that he did not see anything missing but it looks as someone went through his vehicle. SGT Jason Turner processed this vehicle. Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 7/21/205, 2200, 7/22/2015, 1200, N 12th Ave, Dillon, SC, CPL Ronald Graham. The complainant stated that when she went to work she went to reach for her wallet out of the glove box. The wallet was gone. The complainant stated that the wallet was in the glove box of her vehicle when she went into her residence on 7/21/2015. SGT Turner came out and processed the vehicle. Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle, 7/21/2015, 2000 – 7/22/2015, 0900, 7/22/2015, 0900, E Madison St, Dillon, SC, SGT Ray McPhatter.  The victim stated she noticed someone went into her 2008 Honda Ridgeliner last night.  She stated they did not take anything but they went through the glove compartment and had things strung all over the inside of the vehicle.  Sgt. M. Herring processed the vehicle. Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 8/10/2015, 0800 – 8/16/2015, 0800, Cedar Terrace Apt., Dillon, SC, CPL T.J. Bourgoin.  Complainant arrived at the City of Dillon PD to report a vehicle beak in on 8/10/2015.  The complainant stated that she just let it go because it was only small items that were taken.  The complainant realized today that her gas cap was missing also so she decided that it was time to report the break in. Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle, 8/05/2015, 2350-0155, E. Jefferson St, Dillon, SC, CPL Ronald Graham.  The complainant’s son informed officer that someone had went into his father’s vehicle.  He stated that he looked at the vehicle and saw a black male with a white shirt and possible blue jeans shorts crouching in front of the vehicle as Officer McLeod passed by.  The suspect took off running toward 22nd Ave. and he lost sight of the suspect. The complainant’s son stated that the suspect had shoulder length dreadlocks and appeared to be 19 to 25 yrs old. SGT Herring arrived and processed the vehicle.  The area was searched with no finding of the suspect.

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 8/07/2015, 0000-0830, Garden Court Apt. parking lot/Rosewood, Dillon, SC, SGT Michael Yoder. The victim told officers that sometime last night, someone broke the driver side window of his 2001 Honda Civic.  Nothing was taken from the vehicle.  Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 8/07/2015, 0030-0800, N. 5th Ave., Dillon, SC, CPL Jeffrey H. Cook.  The victim reported that between the above times an unknown suspect went inside her vehicle.  The suspect went through her center console and took some papers out and a notary public stamp.  The suspect took $15 that was in the driver door handle.  Investigator Hayes responded and processed the notary public stamp. B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 8/07/2015, 0000-1445, Pecan St., Dillon, SC, SGT Michael Yoder.  On the above date and time officers were dispatched to the above location. The victim stated that someone had entered their vehicle and went through it.  Only the change was taken. Investigator Hayes was notified and took over the scene.  No forced entry was seen because the doors were unlocked.  The victim told officers that this has been going on for a while, but apparently nobody is calling the police to inform them.  Several vehicles in that area have been broken into at various times in the last few months.  Most of the people in the area just leave the doors unlocked and they do not leave any valuables in the vehicles at night. B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, Petit Larceny, 8/04/2015, 1700 – 8/05/2015, 0000, N. 8th Ave., Dillon, SC, CPL Jeffrey H. Cook.  On 8/9/2015, Victim #1 reported that Victim #2 parked his truck in the parking lot of the above incident location to go in to see his wife that was in ICU.  Victim #1 reported that the next day they noticed that the items that were in Victim #2’s truck were gone.  Victim #1 reported that an unknown suspect broke into the tool box that was on the Victim #2’s truck.  After the suspect gained entry, the suspect took 2 Acer laptops, black in color, one 15 inch and the other an 11 inch, valued at $800 each.  The suspect took a Dell laptop gray in color valued at $500.  The suspect took an Apple desktop VCR black in color valued at $900.  The suspect took two Aspen tablets black in color valued at $300 each.  The suspect took a box that contained DVD and CD valued at $100 and a box of inhaler valued at $100.  Victim #1 reported that the suspect took a 40 inch Tosbia TV black in color valued at $500 from the back of the truck and a Warren weed eater black and green in color valued at $200.  Victim #1 reported that the suspect took a 58 inch Tosbia TV black in color valued at $1200 from a trailer that was hooked to Victim #2’s truck.  Victim #1 owned the two TV’s, the three laptops and the two tablets.  Victim #2 owned the desktop VCR, the weed eater, and the two boxes of items.  Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 8/10/2015, 0855 – 0912, Police Department 401 W. Main St., Dillon, SC, PFC Christopher Zeller.  PFC Zeller was dispatched to the Police Department to take a report upon arrival with the complainant who informed him that his gun was taken out of his car at some point this week.  Complainant reported that he noticed Saturday that it was missing and that he had last seen it Tuesday, August 4th, 2015.  He said he had stowed it in the glove compartment of his car and he said that it had to be taken from there.  He stated that his car was not damaged in any way and that no one had broken into his car.  He was asked if he keeps his doors locked and he said that he does and has this last week as far as he remembers.  He said it had to have taken place either at his work which is located on Main St. or at his house which is also located in the city limits.  The gun stolen from his car is a black semi-automatic hi-point JGP 45 ACP, which he paid about $260 for it from one of the pawn shops.  Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle, 7/22/2015, 2000 – 7/24/2015, 0830, E. Wilson St, Dillon, SC, SGT Jason Turner, SGT James Hayes.  Between the above dates and times, an unknown individual or individuals did break into the Kia Sedona Mini Van by entering the vehicle through an unlocked door and did go through the glove box.  It does not appear that anything is missing at the time of the report.  The vehicle was processed by Detectives Hayes and Turner.

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 7/06/2015, 0500 – 1400, S. 12th Ave., Dillon, SC, SGT Michael Yoder.  Complainant found that her glove compartment and her center console had been opened.  She called police and then her son, who left for work early this morning but did not see anything out of place when he left.  The only thing taken out of the vehicle was some change.  The victim reported that she thought the doors were locked.  No signs of forced entry were seen.  A GPS system was sitting on the passenger seat when officers looked inside.  Investigator Hayes was called to the scene.

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 6/20/2015, 0730, W. Main St., Dillon, SC, PFC Blake Legette.  The complainant stated that the actual break in of the vehicle took place on June 20, 2015 at approximately 0730 hours.  The complainant stated that the doors of the vehicle were unlocked.  The complainant also stated that his son, the victim’s wallet was stolen.  The complainant stated that his son’s wallet consisted of $30, bank card, and driver’s license.  Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 7/17/2015, 0001 – 0800, Stewart St., Dillon, SC, SGT Melvin Lee.  The complainant said that she did not lock her car doors and when she went out to get into her car, she noticed that someone had been in it.  The complainant had put her son into his car seat and saw that her center console and dash board was open and that someone had taken her belongings out.  At the time of this report the only thing missing was some change, about a dollars worth.  Investigator Turner was contacted.  Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 7/18/2015, 0001 – 0800, Tyler Road, Dillon, SC, SGT Melvin Lee.  Complainant stated that after she went to bed last night someone went into her vehicle that was parked in her driveway and took items out of her car.  The complainant’s wallet was found in the driveway of a neighbor’s house up the street and other paperwork down the street from her home.  The complainant stated that she had about $10 in her wallet, only the cash was taken.  The complainant’s other vehicle which is a Nissan Altima was also broken into as well and did not have anything missing at the time of this report.  Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 7/22/2015, 0512 – 0540, S. 6th Ave., Dillon, SC, LCPL Lorie Tyler.  The complainant stated that she got ready to go to work and realized someone went through her vehicle.  The complainant stated that she thought she heard car doors closing but did not see anyone.  The complainant stated that the only thing that was missing was a black bible case with a bible inside.  Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny X2, 7/21/2015, 2200 – 7/22/2015, 0626, E. Roosevelt St., Dillon, SC, CPL Jeffrey H. Cook.  The victim reported that an unknown suspect broke into both of her vehicles.  The unknown suspect broke into the victim’s mini van.  Once the unknown suspect gained entry, the unknown suspect took two containers of clothes from the vehicle.  The containers will be blue in color.  The unknown suspect also broke into the victim’s truck.  Once the unknown suspect gained entry, the unknown suspect took a box of pork skins from the vehicle.  The clothes are valued at $1000.  The pork skins are valued at $700.  Investigator Hayes was called to the scene.  Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle, 7/23/2015, 1720, E. Jefferson St., Dillon, SC, PFC Sherida McLeod.  PFC McLeod was dispatched to E. Jefferson St. I regards to a break in of a motor vehicle.  Upon arrival she spoke with the complainant.  The complainant stated that he opened the truck door on the passenger side and noticed that the inside of the truck had been tampered with.  The complainant stated that he then called police.  The complainant also stated that no one had been in the truck since about Saturday or Sunday and truck doors were unlocked.  The complainant stated that he was not certain if any items were missing out of the truck at this time.  Investigator SGT M. Herring arrived on the scene and processed the fingerprints.  Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 6/27/2015, 0040-0130, Bea Court, Dillon, SC, SGT Michael Yoder.  The victim stated that she just arrived about twenty minutes earlier and was inside the residence visiting.  She heard a boom from outside but she said it sounded like another door closing.  She didn’t think about it because she had locked her doors to her vehicle.  The victim went outside to get a CD and when she opened her passenger door, she looked up and noticed that her driver side window was busted.  She then noticed her purse was missing.  Nothing else in the vehicle was touched.  An investigator was called and he arrived on the scene.  Unknown suspect(s).

B&E of Motor Vehicle/Larceny, 5/29/2015, 2135, Alley behind Donell’s Muffler and Automotive, Dillon Muffler Shop, Dillon, SC, CPL Jeffrey H. Cook.  The victim reported that an unknown suspect tried to break into his vehicle.  The victim reported that he had driver window cracked and the unknown suspect tried to reach in and unlock the door.  The victim’s friend saw the suspect and chased after him but lost him.  The suspect was wearing blue jeans shorts, a light gray tank top and carrying a green backpack.  Investigator Hayes was called to the scene.  Black Male, age 16-20.

Burglary/Breaking & Entering, 7/03/2015, 1400 – 1911, Lietner St., Latta, SC, PFC Jason E. Turner and SGT. Phillip Kevin Daniels.  Officers responded to the race shop on Lietner St in reference to a dispatched call regarding a burglary not in progress.  Upon the complainants return to the premises at 1900 hrs, he noticed that the entrance door to the shop was bent where someone tried to gain access by forcing the door open.  Officers noticed that the door was in fact bent and the door knob would need replacing.  Officers informed complainant that they would file a report on the incident and keep a close watch on the premise throughout the weekend.  Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 7/12/2015, 0100, E. Academy St., Latta, SC, PFC Russell G. Hubbard, Jr.  The complainant noticed that items in his vehicle and his wife’s vehicle had been moved.  The complainant did state that the vehicles were left unlocked.  The complainant stated that he noticed that the ashtray in his truck had been moved out of the cup holder and placed in the seat of the truck and also noticed that miscellaneous paperwork had been plundered through.  He stated that in his wife’s car someone had went through the glove box and center console.  He stated that all the paperwork was left in the seats of the vehicle.  He stated that the only thing that appeared to be missing was change that was left in a cup holder.  He stated that it was approximately 3 dollars in change.  Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 7/11/2015, 2100, S. Sessions St., Latta, SC, PFC Russell G. Hubbard, Jr.  The complainant stated that someone had stolen her purse and several other items out of her vehicle.  The complainant stated that she came outside to go to the store when she noticed that the glove box and console were open.  She stated that the remaining miscellaneous paperwork was left lying in the seats of the vehicle and that someone had also went through the pockets on the doors of the vehicle.  Unknown suspect(s).

Prowler, 7/16/2015, 1935, Zelle St., Latta, SC, PFC Matthew W. Cox.  Officer Cox was dispatched by Dillon County Communications to Zelle St. in reference to a prowler in the area that kept riding by on a bicycle.  Upon arrival the complainant reported that a white male had rode by several times on a bicycle.  She reported that this was very strange because she had never seen this person before.  Unknown suspect.

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 7/20/2015, 0935, Church St., Latta, SC, PFC Keywanya Palmer.  Complainant stated that when he got up this morning he noticed that all the papers were out of their original spots and that someone had gotten into his vehicle.  Complainant advised Officer Palmer that the windows were down and the keys were still in the vehicle.  The only thing that was missing was some change and a five dollar bill that he had in the middle console.  Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 7/19/2015, 2000, Church St., Latta, Chief Crystal Janan Moore.  The victim stated that both his vehicles were gone through and paperwork had been taken out the compartments and placed on the seats.  He stated nothing was missing from the two vehicles.  He had GPS, scanner and radar detectors in the cars but they were not touched.  Unknown suspect(s).

Theft of Cell Phone, 7/15/2015, 0000, Willis St., Latta, SC, PFC Matthew W. Cox.  The complainant came to the Latta Police Department and spoke with Officer Cox about the theft of his cell phone.  He left his cell phone in his car and when he came back out the next morning, it was gone.  Unknown suspect(s).

Larceny/Stolen Battery, 7/30/2015, 1000, Highland Drive, Latta, SC, Chief Crystal Janan Moore.  The complainant called the police department and stated that he just noticed a marine battery missing that was beside his barn in his yard.  This was a new battery and was valued at $125.  He thinks it was an Everstart.  He checked the local dealers that buy batteries but did not find his. Recovered Wallets, 8/6/2015, 0945, E. Leitner St., Latta, SC, CPL Arthur L. Quick III, PFC Jason E. Turner.  Upon arrival, met with the complainant who said he stumbled upon three wallets in the bushes next to his residence.  There is a red wallet with hearts on it and is approximately 7 inches long.  There is a black wallet with floral designs, and it is also approximately 7 inches long.  There is a brown wallet with Glendell Home’s ID in it and is approximately 5 inches long.  Unknown suspect(s).

Burglary/Breaking & Entering, 8/16/2015, 0953 – 1010, Hwy 917 East, Latta, SC, PVT Ricky Lee Day and PVT John Sanders Thompson.  Deputy Day responded to a call in reference to a vehicle being broken into.  Upon arrival, the complainant reported that someone had went into his vehicle and also someone went into his building behind his house.  He said the suspects did not take anything out of the vehicle that he could tell.  He had a GPS and a few other items in his vehicle that the suspects did not mess with.  He reported also he had items in his building but he did not see where the suspect took anything out of the building.  Unknown suspect(s).

Petit Larceny, 8/16/2015, 1023, Hwy. 917 E., Latta, SC, PVT Ricky Lee Day and PT Danielle Laverne Fling.  Complainant reported that someone had went into several vehicles in her yard.  She said the suspect had took approximately $3 in change but she did not see where they took anything else.  She also reported that the suspects went into her father’s vehicle and took a cell phone.  She reported that the cell phone is a Galaxy S3, T-Mobil.  She said the phone is valued at approximately $300.  The suspects went into approximately four vehicles in total.  Her boyfriend reported that the suspects only took some change out of his vehicles.  He said he had a pistol in his truck but the suspects did not find it.  Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 8/16/2015, 0957, Hwy 917 E., Latta, SC, PVT Danielle Laverne Fling.  The complainant reported that he opened the driver side door and his CD’s were all over his seat.  He keeps them in the console, glove box was opened and items had been thrown in the floor and passenger seat.  Then he noticed in the bed of his truck was his first aid kit which he keeps behind the passenger seat in the front.  Also at the back of the truck, beside a tree was items on the ground from the first aid kit.  Complainant stated the only thing he was able to notice missing at this time is about $5 worth of silver change he had in the drink holder of the truck.  Fingerprints were lifted off the passenger door of the truck.  Complainant also stated the door to a barn his son uses was open.  He looked inside and was unable to see anything missing right off hand but will have his son to come look and will notify DCSO if any items are missing.  No damage was done to the barn or truck.  Unknown suspect(s).

Burglary/Breaking & Entering, 8/16/2015, 0130, 0550, Heather Court, Latta, SC, 1st SGT Michael Barfield. During the night someone came into the yard, went through several vehicles, pulled out a window unit in the rear of the shop and went inside. Also, the suspect(s) cut two locks off of a box trailer which contained two racing go karts. During this it appeared that they moved a mini-bike around to the front of the barn in an attempt to take it, and also took a moped across the street in an attempt to steal it. From what the homeowner stated there doesn’t seem to be anything missing at the time of the report, but would let r/o know if anything does turn up missing. R/O spoke to Investigator Grainger about this by telephone. Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 8/16/2015, 0130, 0550, Heather Court, Latta, SC, 1st SGT Michael Barfield. This victim had someone go inside her vehicle. R/O spoke to the comp/victim and she stated that sometime during the night someone went inside her vehicle and strewed papers and stuff everywhere. She stated to r/o that at this time all she saw was approx $20.00 in US currency missing. R/O spoke to Investigator Grainger about this matter via telephone. Unknown suspect(s).

Theft from Motor Vehicle, 8/16/2015, 0130, 0550, Heather Court, Latta, SC, 1st SGT Michael Barfield. R/O was notified by SCHP Trooper Gardner that he had run into a couple of people that had some break-ins over the night. He stated there were several situations on Heather Road, Latta, SC. Upon arrival r/o learned that someone, sometime during the night had gone into the victim’s truck and had taken several items from his truck. The victim stated that he is missing a medium sized knife $50.oo, a box of .380 bullets, and also a Bersa Fire storm handgun .380 cal. Black and silver in color. He stated that he paid $425.00 for the handgun, $50.00 for the knife, and $25.00 for the box of bullets. At this time there are no suspects known. Investigator Grainger was notified by telephone. The firearm is a semi-auto pistol. The victim also stated that there was a leatherman tool also missing, valued at about $50.00. Unknown suspect(s).
