Local Talent Leads Post 1 Over Lake City in Three Game Sweep

Dillon County talent continues to shine for Florence Post 1 in American Legion baseball.

On Wednesday night, Post 1 defeated Lake city Post 73 10-1 at Legion Field in Florence.

Lake View’s Weston Rogers got the win, pitching six innings for three hits, three walks, one earned run, and eight outs. Dillon’s Austin Moody and Lake View’s Josh Price combined with Kam Dixon for four scoreless innings of relief to seal the win.

At bat, South Florence’s Lindsey Robinson hit a two-run homer, and Dillon’s Patrick Herring had two hits, including a two-run double. Melquan Depugh had three hits and one RBI in the win; Ke’Shaun Samuel had one hit and one RBI; and Cody Green had one hit, a double, and one run for Florence.

On Thursday, Post 1 completed a sweep of the three-game series with a 19-0 win over Lake City.

Lake View’s Carson Rogers got the win, pitching four innings for one hit and two outs. The Post 1 pitchers shut out Lake City through the final innings to hold Post 73 to just one hit.

Latta’s Jackson Williams helped lead at bat, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Steven Calcutt had two hits, including a home run, for four RBI, and Green went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.

On Friday, Post 1 faced their rival, Sumter Post 15, who they faced last season in the South Carolina American Legion state championship where they claimed the state title. Post 1 earned an 11-2 win on Friday to continue the rivalry, delivering Sumter their first loss of the season.

Dixon started on the mound and got the win, pitching five innings for one hit and four outs.

Herring had three hits, one run, and a double in the win, and Weston Rogers scored after reaching on an error. Darlington’s Samuel had two hits, including a three-run double, and four RBI, and Darlington’s Depugh also had three hits in the win. Cal Butler hit a two-run homer, and Patrick Lovelace added two hits and one RBI for Post 1.

Florence improved to 8-1 overall and is 6-0 in League 2. Post 1 was scheduled to host Georgetown on Monday night.
