William (Al) Albert Freeman

William (Al) Albert Freeman, 86, was called home to heaven on Monday, May 4, 2015. Born in Savannah, Ga on June 8, 1928, he was preceded in death by his parents, William Lester and Ethel Leigh Freeman, as well as his beloved wife of 58 years, Shirley. Al is survived by his sister, Mary Long, of Dillon, SC; his dedicated daughter, Susette; his sons, Bert, Richard and Joe; his nine proud grandchildren; his four great grandchildren; his many nieces and nephews; and his three devoted daughter-in-laws, Shelly, Kelley, and Sandy.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Al also was an All-State football player for Dillon High School and continued to play for the University of South Carolina, graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1955. He went on to rise through the ranks of the railroad industry, retiring from CSX.
He loved sports, traveling, and most of all, his adoring family. Held in the highest regard by those that knew him, he was best known for his charming personality, quick wit and incredible stories.
