County Council Agrees to Purchase Calhoun Street Park Property

The Dillon County Council agreed to purchase the Calhoun Street Park Property. County Administrator Clay Young told the council that he and County Attorney Ken Dubose have been in contact with the property owner and that the project is worked out based on prior discussion with Council. He recommended that Council move ahead on this. DuBose explained that Calhoun Street Property has been under discussion for a long time and that during the the Mrs. Mary Hayes Lackey passed away and then her husband did too. The children are now willing to sell for $28,000.00.
Councilman Randy Goings made a motion to purchase Calhoun Street Property for $28,000.00. Councilman Archie Scott seconded and all were in favor. Randy Goings thanked Council for all they have done to get this property. He said that Concerned Citizens of Newtown (CON) would like to give the park a proper name and present the name to the citizens of Dillon County.
Chairman Buzzy Finklea thanked Randy Goings for his comments and he appointed Randy Goings, Archie Scott and Stevie Grice to look into the name and bring information back to Council.
