Diamond Backs Win WFC Team Appreciation Weekend

The Dillon Diamond Backs 05 won the WFC Team Appreciation Weekend tournament on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, in Florence, South Carolina.

The Diamond Backs went undefeated on the weekend and defeated the Dixie Divas 5-0 to win their fifth championship of the year.

The Diamond Backs opened the tournament with a 2-2 game against the Hot Styx. Logan Grice and Raven Locklear each pitched two innings for the Diamond Backs and each gave up one hit. Grice gave up two earned runs and three walks with two outs, and Locklear gave up one walk with three outs.

Grice led at bat, going 2-for2 with one run scored; Summer Bullard went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI; Taryn Weatherford went 1-for-1; Ashton Goodwin went 1-for-1; Riley Calcutt hit into a fielder’s choice; and Raven Locklear drew one walk and made a sacrifice bunt.

In the second game, the Diamond Backs defeated Carolina Connection 10-1. Taryn Weatherford pitched two innings for one hit, one earned run, one walk, and one out, and Tabitha Williams pitched one inning for two outs.

Bullard led at bat, going 2-for-2 with two RBI, two stolen bases, and one run scored; Calcutt went 1-for-2 with a triple, one RBI, and one run scored; Weatherford went 1-for-1 with one RBI , one stolen base, one walk, and one run; Grice went 1-for-1 with one RBI and one run, also reaching on a hit by pitch; Williams went 1-for-2 with one RBI; Locklear went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two runs, and also hit into a fielder’s choice; Averi Lovell went 1-for-1; Kaylee Holloway picked up one RBI on a walk; Ryleigh Schurlknight drew one walk; Goodwin reached on an error and scored one run with one RBI; and Melanie Sheets scored one run on two walks.

In Saturday’s third game, the Diamond Backs earned a 9-2 win over the Diamond Divas with Williams earning the win, pitching five innings for two hits, two earned runs, three walks, and 12 outs.

Williams also led at bat, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored; Lindsey Floyd went 1-for-2 with a triple, one RBI, and one run scored, also getting a fielder’s choice; Weatherford went 1-for-3 with a double, a fielder’s choice, and one run; Holloway went 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run; Locklear went 1-for-3 with one RBI; Sheets went 1-for-2 with one run; Grice picked up two RBI; Schurlknight scored two runs on a walk and two fielder’s choice hits; Bullard reached on two errors and a walk for one run; Lovell scored one run with one RBI on two walks; Goodwin picked up one RBI on a walk; and Calcutt reached on a walk.

In Saturday’s final game, the Diamond Backs shut out Carolina Mojo 3-0 with Bullard earning the win on the mound, pitching five innings with no hits and seven outs.

At bat, Goodwin went 2-for-3 with three RBI; Schurlknight went 1-for-1; Calcutt went 1-for-1 with a double and also reached on a walk; Locklear scored one run on walk with one stolen base; Bullard drew three walks for two runs and two stolen bases; and Lovell had one stolen base.

In Sunday’s first game, the Diamond Backs earned a 5-2 win over the Dixie Divas with Bullard earning the win, pitching four innings for four hits, two earned runs, and eight outs.

Bullard went 2-for-3 at bat for a double with one stolen base and one run; Sheets went 2-for-2 with a double and one run; Weatherford hit into a fielder’s choice for one run scored and also drew a walk; Lovell scored two runs with two stolen bases; Calcutt picked up two RBI on a walk; Floyd reached on an error for two RBI; Holloway drew a walk and had one stolen base; and Grice picked up one RBI on a walk.

In the tournament championship game on Sunday, the Diamond Backs shut out the Dixie Divas 5-0. Bullard earned the win, pitching four innings with no hits, two walks, and seven outs.

Floyd led at bat, going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI; Locklear went 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run; Bullard scored one run on a walk with two stolen bases; Lovell scored three runs with four stolen bases; Sheets reached on an error; Calcutt reached on a hit by pitch with one RBI; Goodwin drew two walks; Williams picked up one RBI; and Holloway and Weatherford both reached on walks.
