Diamond Backs Win March Madness

The 10U Dillon Diamond Backs 05 won the WFC March Madness on Saturday, March 28, in Columbia, SC.

The Diamond Backs went undefeated on the day, defeating the Killer Bees 7-5 to claim their third championship of the year.

In the opening game, the Diamond Backs defeated the USSSA GA Pride 10-4. Raven Locklear pitched 1.1 innings for the win for one run, one earned run, three walks, and three outs. Taryn Weatherford pitched two-thirds of an inning on the mound for three runs, three earned runs, and five walks.

At bat for the Diamond Backs, Summer Bullard went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI, a stolen base, and one run scored; Locklear went 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run; Ryleigh Schurlknight, Kaylee Holloway, Lindsey Floyd, and Riley Calcutt each picked up one RBI with one run; Tabitha Williams picked up one RBI; Ashton Goodwin scored one run with one stolen base; and Taryn Weatherford, Logan Grice, and Averi Lovell each added one run.

In game two, the Diamond Backs shut out the sharks 9-0 with Williams giving up one hit and two walks on the mound, striking out 11.

Goodwin went 2-for-2 with one run at bat; Weatherford went 1-for-3 for a triple with one run scored; Locklear went 1-for-2 with a triple, one RBI and one run; Bullard went 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBi, one run, and one stolen base; Williams went 1-for-1 with two RBI; Schurlknight went 1-for-2 with one RBI; Floyd went 1-for-1 with one RBI and two runs; Calcutt picked up one RBI and added one run; Lovell picked up one runner; and Holloway and Grice each scored one run.

The Diamond Backs beat the Killer Bees 2-1 in the third game, with Bullard getting the win, giving up one run, one earned run, and five walks, striking out 13 batters.

Grice went 1-for-2 with a triple and one run, and Bullard went 1-for2 with a home run, one RBI, and one run scored. Floyd picked up one RBI in the win.

In game four, the Diamond Backs took down the Florence Knockouts 5-2. Williams earned the win on the mound, pitching four innings for one hit, two runs, one earned run, and two walks, striking out 11.

The Diamond Backs had just two hits, with Bullard going 1-for-1 for a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored, and Locklear going 1-for-2 with a double, a stolen base, one RBI, and one run scored. Goodwin picked up one RBI with one run scored; Grice picked up one runner; and Lovell scored one run.

In the championship game, the Diamond Backs defeated the Killer Bees 7-5 with Bullard earning the win, pitching five innings for three hits, five runs, five earned runs, and three walks, striking out 14.

At bat, Bullard went 2-for-3 with a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored; Floyd went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI; Goodwin went 2-for-3 with one RBI; Lovell scored four runs with three stolen bases; Locklear scored one run; Holloway went 1-for-1 with one RBI; Schurlknight went 1-for-2; and Grice picked up one RBI.
