Patricia Josephine “Patty Jo” Jones Allen, 78, died March 31, 2015 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m.., April 3, 2015 at Latta Presbyterian Church with interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.., April 2, 2015 at Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta.
Mrs. Allen was born March 8, 1937 in Kenly, NC the daughter of the late Leland Ezra and Iola Brown Jones of Raleigh, NC. She was an alumna of Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs, NC and was a member of Catfish Creek Baptist Church for twenty years before moving to the Latta Presbyterian Church. She was active in both churches where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Training Union (at the Catfish Church), active in Circle Meetings, and was a former Church Treasurer at the Presbyterian Church. In 2007 she was presented the Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership. She was the Past President of the Dillon County Extension Homemaker’s Club, Past Member of the Latta Dogwood Garden Club, and Past Member of the Dillon County Historical Society. In her youth she was active in the Girl Scout Program in Raleigh, NC and continued as a Girl Scout Leader in College and in the Latta area for a short period. She retired from the Latta School System after thirty years of service as a Secretary at Latta High and Latta Elementary Schools. Her favorite hobby was to read. She was the widow of Quay Allen.
Patty Jo is survived by her son, Romie Jay Allen (Stacey) of Dillon; daughters, Cheryl Allen Fore (Jimmy) of Latta and Karen Allen Richardson of Latta; grandchildren, Ryan Richardson (Danielle) of Latta, Chris Richardson (Nikki) of Dillon, and Heath Fore (Tracey) of Latta; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her only brother, Leland Thomas Jones of Releigh, NC and Oak Island, NC.
