March Has Been Busy Month For DHSF

By Mary Miller
March has been busy for members of Dillon Historic School Foundation.  After months of  attempting to draft an appealing brochure that will introduce DHSF’s history and purpose to the public, real progress was finally made. Chairman Gerald Berry scheduled a workshop session on March 17, and members made the difficult decision of which parts of two previously proposed brochures should be retained and what new information would be added to the final version.  Members will vote on the content and details of the final draft at the April meeting.
On March 16, board members Gerald Berry and Mary Miller met with District Four Superintendent Ray Rogers, County School Board Chairman Richard Schafer, and School Attorney Bruce Davis.   The meeting was congenial and productive as both parties continued working together toward a mutual agreement on the disposition of the DHS/JVM auditorium.
DHSF members Lorene Arnette,  NaTalia McLeod, Terry Morris and Gerald Berry will also attend a workshop sponsored by RALI-Dillon County on March 26.  This training session is designed for non-profit/civic organizations to learn the processes of foundation search, application, and writing for the diversity of donors.
This, of course, will be helpful when DHSF begins soliciting grants and donors.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of DHSF will be Tuesday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce conference room.  Anyone interested in joining DHSF is invited to attend and bring a friend interested in the preservation of the auditorium and in the enhancement of our local culture.
