The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the District Administrative Conference Room.
Trustees present were Kyle Berry, Vanessa Harrison, Linda James, Betty Jo Johnson, Kenneth Kitts and Eddie Watson. Edward Bethea was absent.
Betty Jo Johnson welcomed all present and Dr. Kirby opened with prayer.
There being no corrections or additions to the January 13, 2015 minutes and the current agenda, Chair Johnson ruled that they stand approved.
Old Business
Sonya George reminded all board members to complete the online 2015 State Ethics Form.
Departmental Business
Donna Taylor presented the status report for December on the General Fund budget.
Esther Rogers gave an update on the school crisis and safety plans.
Debra Morris updated the Board on a $20,000 Duke Energy Grant.
Dollie Morrell gave an update on a $250,000 South Carolina Community Block Grant and a $25,000 American Farmers Grow Rural Education Monsanto Grant.
An update on school facilities was given by Dr. Kirby.
Dr. Kirby shared with the Board his 2015-2016 school year goals.
Dr. Kirby presented the results of the Superintendent’s Evaluation Forms completed by Board members.
A motion was made by Eddie Watson and seconded by Vanessa Harrison to approve the School Calendar Draft for the 2015-2016 school year. Vote was unanimous.
A motion to approve first reading and waive second reading of policy IKE was made by Kenneth Kitts and seconded by Kyle Berry. Vote was unanimous.
Executive Session: A motion to go into executive session to discuss the Superintendent’s contract was made by Kenneth Kitts sand seconded by Kyle Berry. Vote was unanimous.
Formal action on Executive Session: Reconvening from executive session a motion to extend the Superintendent’s contract through the 2017-2018 school year was made by Eddie Watson and seconded by Linda James. Vote was unanimous.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
