Vikings Defeat Bears 58-52, Claim Top Spot in Region 8-A

The Latta Vikings defeated Carvers Bay 58-52 on Tuesday night at home in Latta in boys varsity basketball action.

The Vikings fell behind in the first half, but rallied in the second for the win. Carvers Bay opened the game with a 14-9 first quarter and lead 27-20 at the half. But Latta outpaced the Bears the 14-12 in the third and poured in the points in the fourth, outscoring Carvers Bay 24-13 to seize the win.

The Vikings were led by Davonta Porter and Diez Mungro with 14 points each. Kartilus McFadden added 11 points in the win for the Vikings.

Carvers Bay was led by Arkel Williams with 16 points and DJ Goss with 11. Eaddy Moore scored 10; Marquiese Goss, 5; Terry Bromell, 4; Josh Canteen, 2; Molik Reed, 2; and Travell Grate, 2.

Latta improved to 9-4 overall and now hold the lead in Region 8-A with an undefeated 5-0 record. The Vikings are on track to win their first region title since 2002 and climbed to fourth place in the most recent Class A state basketball coaches polls.

The Bears slip to 3-2 in the region and 9-9 overall.

Latta is scheduled to be on the road this Friday to take on Creek Bridge. Next week, the Vikings will be back at home to host Lake View on Tuesday night and Green Sea Floyds on Friday. Game time is 6:00 p.m.!
