Lady Vikings Open Region Play with Win Over Lake View

Latta’s Lady Vikings opened conference play in Region 8-A with a 70-26 win over Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators on Tuesday in girls varsity basketball action in Lake View.

The Vikings took a 17-10 lead in the first quarter and outscored Lake View 25-10 in the second quarter for a 42-20 lead at halftime. Latta held the Gators to just six points in the second half while adding another 28 to secure the win.

TaKeria Legette led all scorers with a game-high 24 points. She added seven rebounds, five steals, and two assists to lead the Vikings.

Mallory Townsend earned 14 points in the win, Maya Wright added 12, and Margaret Desser scored 10 for the Vikings. Madelia Johnson, Tamera Campbell, Koesha James, TyKeria Manning, and Erica Gandy each added two in the win.

Lake View was led by Na’Kedra Page with a team-high 12 points and Olivia McDaniel with six. Jasmine Ford added three points and Kayla Page and Hannah Miller each scored two.

Latta improved to 6-3 overall and starts conference play with a 1-0 record in Region 8-A. Lake View slips to 5-2 and opens region play at 0-1.

The Lady Vikings are scheduled to host Creek Bridge this Friday night at 6:00 p.m., and Hemingway next Tuesday, January 20. Latta was ranked third in the latest South Carolina Basketball Coaches poll, and the Tigers were ranked fifth.

Lake View was scheduled to travel to Aynor on Wednesday night and will be at Hemingway on Friday at 6:00 p.m. On Tuesday, January 20, the Lady Gators will host Carvers Bay, the second ranked Class A team in the state.
