John Simpson Fair, Jr.

Mr. John Simpson Fair, Jr. passed away at Carolina’s Medical Center in Florence on Monday, June 30, 2014.  He was 90 years old.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by Chaplain Ann Ayres of Methodist Manor.  There will also be a memorial service conducted by Chaplain Ayres at Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee in Florence at 3:00 p.m. Thursday.
Born January 23, 1924 in Marlboro County, John was the son of the late John Simpson Fair and Henrietta Carlisle Fair.  He was a graduate of Lower Marlboro High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.  After his military discharge he worked for Martin Marietta in Baltimore, MD before returning to his homeplace in the Oak Grove community of Dillon County.  
He would eventually retire from Oak River Mills in Bennettsville after decades of dedicated service.   In 2005 he moved to Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee in Florence where he enjoyed the fellowship of many new friends.  John had a true passion for music and played the organ and piano for several churches in the community.
Mr. Fair was preceded in death by four sisters; Annie Ruth Fair McLeod, Mary Ulmer Fair Newton, Gladys Fair Orr, and Sara Fair Galloway.
To cherish his memory John leaves behind four nephews; Neil A. McLeod, Jr. and wife Dale of Gilbert, SC; Harvey Newton and wife Sandra of Baton Rouge, LA; Barry Newton and wife Nancy of Cornelius, NC; and Richard Newton of Hartsville, SC; three nieces, Karen Daniels of Florence; Mary Jo Ferguson and husband Clayton of West Palm Beach, FL; and Kathryn Gardner and husband Ronald of Murrell’s Inlet, SC, as well as a host of great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to his Methodist Manor family for their friendship, loving care, and many kindnesses.
