Library Board Honors June Arnette And Her Work

The Dillon County Library Board of Trustees met to celebrate and honor the good works of Mrs. June Arnette.

Mrs. Arnette agreed to serve her county and represented the interest of the Lake View Community from 2000 until her retirement from the library board in October 2013.
She loyally represented the Lake View area where the Arnette Family has a long established history.  She is the widow of the late Roy Arnette and the mother of four sons; Harry, James, Alex, and David. She is the widower of the late Glen Arnette and the step-mother of Diane, Joel and Walter Arnette.
Mrs. Arnette was appointed to the library board by the late Councilman E. Horace Arnette and later by Councilman Bobby Moody.
Throughout her tenure, she made numerous trips around the state attending workshops, lectures and promoting Dillon County.
Chairman Lee commented that “Mrs. Arnette is a true advocate for her county library.  She demonstrated a determination, passion, and commitment to strengthen libraries during her tenure on the board.”
Her devotion to her community included participating in the Retired Teachers Association.  She is a retired school librarian and teacher, retired from Lake View School System; she served as Chairman of the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and remains an active community leader.  Her education background is a bachelor’s degree from Montevallo College for Women; a division of the University of Alabama, and she did graduate work at the University of South Carolina.
The program honoring Mrs. Arnette was held during the board’s spring meeting at the Sadie M. Carmichael Library in Lake View.  Mrs. Mertis Barnett, Branch Manager at Lake View and Trustee Carolyn Lupo hosted the luncheon and served a refreshing lunch of fruits, salads and pound cake.
The Trustees are wearing tee shirts recognizing 100 years that the Latta Library has stood and has served as a beacon of public education.
