On Tuesday, April 15, the Dillon Wildcats JV softball team played in the Camden JV Softball Invitational. The tournament consisted of 16 teams with four teams in four brackets. Dillon won the tournament with wins over Irmo, White Knoll, North Augusta, and River Bluff. Dillon won the tournament with a record of 5-0.
In game one, Dillon defeated Irmo 8-0. Taylor Blackmon had a walk in the first inning and then stole second base, and Tori Grimsley had a RBI single. In the third, Blackmon walked and stole second base and Grimsley had a RBI single. Johnna Rogers reached on an error and stole second base, and Auh’Keria Smiling walked. Brittany miller had a three-run triple, and Brianna Froneberger had a single and stole second and third base.
In the fourth inning, Grimsley led off with a single and stole second. Smiling reached on an error and Grimsley scored. After Smiling stole second, Miller knocked her in with a RBI single. In the fifth, Froneberger led off with a double and advanced to third on a ground out and scored on Tiffany Dwyer’s fly out to centerfield.
Tori Grimsley earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings for one hit, four walks, one hit batter, and five outs.
At bat, Blackmon had three walks, two runs scored, and two stolen bases; Grimsley went 3-for-4 with three runs and three stolen bases; Rogers scored one run with one stolen base; Smiling went 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI, and one stolen base; Miller went 2-for-3 with four RBI; Ashley Phillips went 1-for-3 with a stolen base; and Froneberger went 2-for-3 with a double, one run, and two stolen bases.
In game two, Dillon defeated White Knoll 8-0. Blackmon led off with a double and Grimsley followed with a single. Blackmon moved to third and Miller followed with a two-run single. In the second, Blackmon walked and sole second, and Grimsley followed with a RBI single. Rogers led off the third with a walk and stole second, and Smiling singled for the RBI.
Blackmon singled in the fourth, stole second and third, and scored on a groundout from Grimsley. Rogers was hit by pitch, and Smiling hit a double to score Rogers. Miller brought Smiling in with a RBI single to seal the win.
Johnna Rogers got the win on the mound, pitching five innings for two hits, one hit batter, and seven outs.
At bat, Blackmon went 3-for-3 with three runs and two stolen bases; Grimsley went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI; Rogers walked once and scored two runs; Smiling went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two RBI; and Miller went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two stolen bases.
In game three, Dillon defeated Hartsville 8-2. Grimsley singled in the first inning, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Rogers walked and stole second, and Smiling walked. Miller singled for two runs, and Phillips reached on an error that brought in Smiling. Dwyer also reached on an error to score Miller.
Rogers had a one out double in the second inning and went to third on a sacrifice bunt from Smiling. Miller brought Rogers in with an RBI single to improve Dillon’s lead. In the third, Froneberger and Dwyer both reached on an error, and Sha’Miya McLellan singled. Grimsley also singled to score Smiling. In the fourth, Smiling led off with a triple and Miller followed with a double to end the scoring.
Hartsville’s runs came in the first and fourth innings.
Tiffany Dwyer earned the win on the mound, pitching five inning for seven hits, one walk, two outs, and two runs.
At bat, Grimsley went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI; Rogers went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs; Smiling went 1-for-1 with a triple and two runs; Miller went 3-for-3 with one run and three RBI; Phillips scored one run; Froneberger went 1-for-3; and Dwyer and McLellan each went 1-for-2.
In game four, Dillon edged North Augusta 2-1 with Grimsley getting a single in the first, stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball. Smiling hit a RBI double to put Dillon up 1-0. In the fifth inning, McLellan reached on an error and scored on a single from Grimsley for a 2-0 lead. North Augusta scored one run in the sixth for the 2-1 final score.
Tori Grimsley got the win on the mound, pitching six innings for four hits, three walks, three outs, and one run.
At bat for Dillon, Blackmon went 1-for-2; Grimsley went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI; Rogers had one walk; Smiling went 2-for-3 with one RBI; and Phillips went 1-for-2.
In the championship game, Dillon faced River Bluff for a 20-0 shut out win.
After a scoreless first inning, Dillon’s Miller led off the second with a dingle and Phillips followed with another single. McLellan reached on an error to pick up a runner and Blackmon walked, with Grimsley following with a two-run single. Rogers came up with a tow-run triple and Smiling and Miller had back-to-back RBI singles to put Dillon well ahead of River Bluff.
In the third, Froneberger singled and stole second, and McLellan hit a RBI double and went to third on a passed ball. Blackmon walked, and Grimsley reached on a fielder’s choice. Rogers and Smiling followed with RBI singles, and Miller had a three-run double to end the scoring.
In the fourth, Froneberger hit a lead-off double and McLellan hit a RBI single. Blackmon was hit by pitch, and Grimsley hit into a fielder’s choice to pick up a RBI. Rogers walked, and Smiling hit a RBI single, with Sara Johnson getting a RBI groundout.
Tiffany Dwyer earned the win on the mound, pitching four innings for three outs and no hits. At bat for the Wildcats, Blackmon scored three runs on two walks and one hit by pitch; Grimsley went 1-for-4 with two runs and three RBI; Rogers went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI; Smiling went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI; Miller went 3-for-3 with one run and four RBI; Phillips went 3-for-4 with one run; Froneberger went 2-for-4 with two runs; McLellan went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI; and Johnson had one RBI on a groundout.
For the tournament, Dillon gave up three runs while scoring 46. Dillon’s batting average for the team was .410 and their opponent’s average was .191.
Bailey Grossetti and Sara Evans also contributed to the team with their batting, fielding, and base running. Odoshia Graves was not able to play because she was at a church function.
