Lady Gators Advance in Playoffs with 10-0 Win Over Bears; 17-1 Win Over Trojans

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators shut out Carvers Bay and held Cross to just one run to advance to the District VI championship in the Class A 2014 state softball playoffs.

On Thursday night, the Lady Gators shut out Carvers Bay 10-0 in five innings of softball action. Neither team could score until the third, when Lake View broke loose for five runs. The Lady Gators added three runs in the fourth, and sealed the win with two in the fifth.

Marissa Tyndall earned the win for the Lady Gators, pitching five innings for one hit, two walks, one hit by pitch, and seven outs. Hailey Haselden took the loss for Carvers Bay, pitching five innings for eight hits, 10 runs, six earned runs, six walks, four outs, and one hit by pitch.

At bat for the Gators, Madison Matthews hit a home run and went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Kayce Wong went 1-for-2. The Lady Gators had eight hits in the win.

On Saturday, the Lady Gators traveled to Cross and earned a 17-1 win over the Trojans in four innings.

Lake View scored three runners in the top of the first inning and added 10 in the second and one more in the third. The Lady Gators capped the win with three runs in the fourth, while Cross scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Morgan Herlong got the win on the mound, pitching all four innings and allowing just one run and one walk in the no-hitter. She struck out five.

At bat for the Gators, Madison Greene went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Amber Locklear went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Ally Spivey went 1-for-2 with three RBI, and Kayce Wong went 2-for-3 in the win.

Lake View improved to 15-6 overall with the playoff wins and will host the District VI championship game on Wednesday night.

In Saturday’s elimination bracket game, Carver’s Bay defeated Bethune-Bowman 1-0 to stay alive in the playoffs, and was scheduled to travel to Cross on Monday night.
